Jimmy Buffett was hoping to bring a Margaritaville restaurant to New York City but the plans appear to have fallen through for now, according to the NY Post.

A much-touted prospective deal for Buffett to launch a New York outpost of his “concept” eatery at the landmark Brill Building at 1619 Broadway at 49th Street has collapsed, multiple sources said.

The talks were closely watched as a bellwether of “experiential” retail north of Times Square. Broadway is marred by yawning retail vacancies between 49th and 58th streets.

It was widely reported last year that a lease was all but signed for a multi-level Margaritaville eating-entertainment complex in the Brill Building, once home to the nation’s songwriting royalty and to Jack Dempsey’s steak house.

However, the deal fell through when pharmacy chain CVS recently inked a deal for the entire second floor. Margaritaville had wanted that floor as well as part of the ground floor and the rooftop.

It was known since last summer that CVS was in talks with Brill’s owners — but for elsewhere in the building.

An insider told us, “What happened is strange. They’re still pitching Buffett on a Margaritaville deal somewhere in the building.” The source added skeptically, “But it’s back to square one.”

Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville restaurant will open in the largest mall in the United States on Tuesday (Sept 20th).

Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville restaurant will open a location at Mall of American, Bloomington, Minn., on Sept. 20. The 315-seat restaurant and bar will be Margaritaville’s first in the state of Minnesota.

Taking a cue from Jimmy Buffett’s storied past, the restaurant’s design brings together a combination of tropical elements to create Margaritaville’s version of a Key West beach bar in the middle of the nation’s largest mall. The nearly 10,000-sq.-ft. venue features shades of green and blue, reminiscent of a Caribbean island, complemented by wood accents and country music inspired décor.

According to an article last fall, the restaurant “will be on the east wing’s third floor, near Crayola’s new attraction and store and the relocated Rainforest Cafe.”

Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Casino and restaurant opened its doors on Thursday in Tulsa, and officials said that Jimmy will play at the new theater in late January:

Jimmy Buffett is tentatively set to play the new showroom at Margaritaville on Jan. 28, Creek Nation officials announced Thursday during the grand opening for the casino.

The resort will feature a 2,500-seat concert venue.

The new 50,000-square-foot Margaritaville casino is the first part of the resort to open. A 483-room hotel hotel will open inl December; the theater and the outdoor area next to the river will be ready in 2017.
