Buffett Considering a Margaritaville in Byron Bay

March 3rd, 2017

Jimmy Buffett is considering opening a Margaritaville restaurant in Byron Bay, Australia, according to NorthernStar.com:

Speaking from Palm Beach, Florida, ahead of his Bluesfest appearance in April, the singer said he will be scouting suitable locations for a possible business venture.

“Byron Bay is such a unique place to me,” he said.

“I’d like to look at some opportunities while I’m there.”

Mr Buffett said he would also be open to discuss a partnership with local businesspeople.

“If there was anybody interested, I would certainly be interested,” he said.

Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville is a United States-based casual dining restaurant chain and a chain of stores selling Jimmy Buffett-themed merchandise.

It is owned by Buffettand named after his hit song Margaritaville.

Asked on what type of set up would he be scouting for, Jimmy Buffett said it has to be a venue that suits the Byron Bay style.

“It doesn’t matter what size it is, I’d love to have a spot there just to get on the map, but it’s not about how large it is, it’s how it fits in with the rest of the community,” he said.

“It has to fit in with what I think it’s a wonderful kind of atmosphere that I associate with Byron Bay.”

Main Cast is Set for Escape to Margaritaville Musical

March 1st, 2017

The main cast for the Escape to Margaritaville musical has been announced.

Paul Alexander Nolan will sink his teeth into a starring role (and perhaps a cheeseburger in paradise?) in the Broadway-aimed Jimmy Buffett musical Escape to Margaritaville. The Bright Star standout will headline the production’s world premiere at La Jolla Playhouse. He is set to play Tully, a part-time bartender and singer. Broadway alums Alison Luff and Lisa Howard will take on the roles of Rachel and Tammy, respectively. Performances of the Christopher Ashley-helmed musical are scheduled to begin on May 9. As previously announced, a Great White Way opening is slated for spring 2018.

Nolan’s Broadway credits include Chicago, Doctor Zhivago, Jesus Christ Superstar and Once. Luff was last seen on the Great White Way in Les Misérables; she also appeared in Matilda, Scandalous and Ghost. Howard last appeared on Broadway in It Shoulda Been You. Her additional Great White Way credits include Priscilla Queen of the Desert, 9 to 5, South Pacific and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

The La Jolla engagement is scheduled to run through June 25. The production will then go to New Orleans’ Saenger Theatre from October 20 through 28. Performances at Houston’s Hobby Center will run from October 31 through November 5. The Chicago stint is set for November 9 through December 3. Further casting will be announced at a later date.

Buffett to Open Retirement Community in Daytona

February 28th, 2017

Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Holdings is planning to open Latitude Margaritaville, a 55-year and older community in Daytona, Florida.

Plans for a 55-and-older Margaritaville-themed community are barely off the drawing board, but the spirit of the Jimmy Buffett song that inspired the project was evident in a welcome celebration on Thursday at LPGA International Golf Club.

The invitation-only party marked this week’s announcement by Canadian developer Minto Communities that Buffett’s Margaritaville Holdings company will be a strategic partner in developing Latitude Margaritaville, a planned 6,900-home community for 55-and-older residents on the north side of LPGA Boulevard, just west of Interstate 95.

The first homes are expected to be ready for move in by fall 2018, said William Bullock, a senior vice president with Minto. A sales center along LPGA Boulevard next to the Halifax Humane Society is expected to be open by this fall, with models available to tour by January 2018, Bullock said.

The community is being designed to reflect Buffett’s well-known tropical vibe, including the look and feel of its homes, which will feature an Old Florida/Key West architectural style, Bullock said.
