Destin Margaritaville to Open Early 2014

October 28th, 2013

Construction on Jimmy Buffett’s latest Margaritaville restaurant is coming along nicely, with an opening scheduled for late January according to Northwest Florida Daily News:

Construction is expected to wrap up and be turned over to Margaritaville in early January. The staff then will be trained for a couple weeks before the restaurant is expected to open in late January.

Margaritaville is taking over the Lucky Snapper’s footprint, but the entire building is undergoing a major renovation designed by Destin architect Joe Dougherty of Dougherty Architecture. The building has been redesigned to have more of a beach village feel, and will feature several stores, a booking booth for boat charters and a stage on east side of the building.

Buffett has visited Destin to inspect the construction. His most recent trip was about three weeks ago.

“He came in and spent the day,” Peter Bos, CEO of Legendary Inc. said. “He is very, very, very happy with the building and excited about being in Destin.”

“Cheeseburger” on Dancing With The Stars

October 22nd, 2013

ABC’s Dancing With The Stars featured a slice of Jimmy Buffett on Monday night as comedian Bill Engval and his partner Emma Slater danced to “Cheeseburger in Paradise.”

Bill and Emma take the bold move of setting their tango to Jimmy Buffett’s “Cheeseburger in Paradise” (or “Beefburgers in Paradise” by Jimmy Buffet, according to Emma), and Bill dedicates the dance to “Redneck Nation.” Their little skit at the beginning (he’s served a salad, while she gets a cheeseburger) is cute, and they pull off a pretty big feat by making the song look like it was made for a tango. The judges are amused and pleased. Len calls it “sharp and tangy,” while Bruno nitpicks “a few tiny issues,” saying they had a difficult time keeping up with the song’s tempo.

Buffett Plays Intimate Show in San Diego

October 18th, 2013

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band played an intimate show on Thursday night at the 600-capacity Belly Up in Solana Beach.

Thursday evening was a big night at one of San Diego’s oldest and best known clubs. Hundreds of fans packed the Belly Up in Solana Beach to see Jimmy Buffett perform. San Diego 6 went out to talk to some of the “Parrot Heads” who began lining up hours before the concert began.

“We party with a purpose is our motto. It’s just kind of what he stands for, you know helping each other,” said self-described Parrot Head Gail Folsom. Like many of the fans standing in line, Folsom had seen Buffett many times. But never in a place like the Belly Up. Buffett typically sells out stadiums that seat tens of thousands. The Belly Up holds a total of 600 people. “I’m really excited cause this is like the closest I’ll ever be to Jimmy Buffett I think,” Folsom said.

Here’s a shot of the set list from The Margarillas:
