Biloxi Margaritaville Posts Jobs

September 10th, 2011

Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Casino in Biloxi won’t open until next year, but they are already looking to fill positions:

Key jobs are being advertised for Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Casino and Restaurant, which is under construction in East Biloxi, and casino officials hope to fill many of them with local talent.

“We’re just starting to look for these positions,” said Karen Sock, who recently was named general manager of the casino. She said the jobs are being advertised in the Sun Herald and online.

Among the positions that are being reviewed and filled are directors of food and beverage, marketing, human relations, gaming operations and surveillance along with manager of information systems.

Sock said they expect to bring on these managers in January and the bulk of the staff will go to work in April or early May.

In November the casino will launch a web site and begin posting jobs for people to work in the casino and restaurant, Sock said.

McAnally Nominated Again as CMA Musician of the Year

September 7th, 2011

Nominations were announced Tuesday morning for the 45th annual CMA Awards and Mac McAnally was once again nominated as Musician of the Year.

Mac has won the award the past three years. Can he win a fourth?

Here are the nominees in the category:

  • Sam Bush – Mandolin
  • Jerry Douglas – Dobro
  • Paul Franklin – Steel Guitar
  • Dann Huff – Guitar
  • Mac McAnally – Guitar

After being nominated a third time last year (and subsequently winning again), a very humble Mac said “I was flattered and felt unworthy to be nominated the first time and now I’ve won two. Once again, I’m awfully grateful to be thought about in any positive light by my peers. Playing music is my favorite thing to do,” he said. “It’s certainly not a bad thing to get called to do some more.”

The 45th annual CMA Awards will air Wednesday, November 9th on ABC with hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley. The Musician of the Year award is typically given out before the live broadcast.
