South Carolina Parrot Head license plates are getting closer and closer to reality, according to the Augusta Chronicle.

The Senate Transportation Committee on Wednesday voted to authorize a special “Parrot Head” license plate in honor of the nickname singer Jimmy Buffett gave his fans, with proceeds benefiting Alzheimer’s groups in the state.

Rep. Skipper Perry’s bill has already passed the House, but needs approval from the Senate and Gov. Mark Sanford to become law.

If the bill becomes law, South Carolina will join Virginia as the second state with an official Parrot Head license plate.

Every concert will be carried on Sirius this summer, including Buffett’s performance at the New Orleans Jazz Fest in early May.

Jimmy Buffett fans can enjoy every concert on his upcoming “Party at the End of the World” tour starting on April 18, as SIRIUS Satellite Radio will broadcast each show live on its Radio Margaritaville channel (channel 31).

The tour’s itinerary of 19 scheduled amphitheatre shows taking place between April 18 and August 12 includes a performance from the esteemed New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on Saturday, May 6.

The Hollywood Report has a thorough article on “Hoot” director Will Shriner and the making of the movie. It mentions Jimmy’s involvement a couple of times. Here are excerpts from the article that include Buffett.

Talking recently to Shriner about how the movie reached the screen, he explained, “It all began about 2 1/2 years ago in Key West. I met with Carl Hiaasen and Jimmy Buffett over a fish sandwich. Jimmy had bought the rights to ‘Hoot’ the book from his fishing buddy Carl.

“We were like in mid-June (and saying) ‘What are we going to do?’ We were in a bind and through the National Wildlife Federation and some of Jimmy’s contacts we were able to get a waiver to train these owls and use these rehab owls because the real ones are protected and obviously you can’t mess with them.

A Buffett World forum member confirmed from a reliable source that former Coral Reefer Greg “Fingers” Taylor appears with Jimmy Buffett on the soon-to-be-released “Hoot” Soundtrack.

Taylor is legendary among Parrot Heads. His sound can be heard on countless Buffett tracks through the years.

Fingers left the Coral Reefer Band a few years ago, and it’s unknown right now whether he will tour again with the band this year.
