Jimmy Makes Surprise Appearance at Jazz Fest

May 6th, 2017

Jimmy Buffett dropped by the New Orleans Jazz Fest on Friday and joined Dave Matthews onstage during his set.

As the Jazz Fest schedule read, the closing set at the Acura Stage on Friday (May 7), was simply Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, but don’t let the simple title nor the lack of backing musicians onstage fool you: These two guitarists brought a few surprises.

Near the end of the pair’s 90-minute set, a stagehand brought out an extra microphone stand as Matthews introduced who would soon stand behind it: Jimmy Buffett, a longtime fan of Jazz Fest and New Orleans.

“I got a friend who wanted to come because he’s in town. I run into this man in odd places … because much the same way some people get places in a car or on a bike, this man just hops on his plane,” Matthews said.

Buffett, wearing shorts and a salmon-colored ball cap, arrived with his own guitar slung over one shoulder.

“I hope if I stand onstage long enough next to Tim Reynolds, I’ll play like him,” he said, later adding, “Allen Toussaint brought this weather today.”

Because New Orleans “is a pirate town,” Buffett explained, the trio took on his “A Pirate Looks at 40.”

Cleveland Margaritaville Opening Delayed

April 27th, 2017

First announced a year ago, and originally scheduled to open in late 2016, the Margaritaville restaurant in Cleveland has delayed its opening again.

The opening of Cleveland’s hotly anticipated Margaritaville restaurant on Front Avenue in the Flats has been delayed until summer.

When the initial announcement of Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville coming to Cleveland was made last May, the restaurant was slated to open in late 2016. By October, however, that date was pushed back until spring 2017.

While officials connected with the project said the restaurant will debut this summer, they did not provide any official date.

Margaritaville’s menu features foods like coconut shrimp, seafood macaroni and cheese, fish tacos, steak, grilled chicken and burgers. Yes, there’s even a “Cheeseburger in Paradise” complete with lettuce, tomato, Heinz 57 and French-fried potatoes — just like Buffett’s song suggests.

Once the location opens, it will be the only Margaritaville in the state of Ohio after the Cincinnati location recently closed.
