New State Song For Florida?

March 9th, 2007

Lauren Ritchie of the Orlando Sentinel has written a commentary suggesting that Buffett is the perfect artist for a new Florida state song:

A movement is afoot in the Florida Legislature this year to change
the state song, “The Swanee River (Old Folks at Home),” written in
1851 by Pennsylvanian Stephen C. Foster.

Buffett is the only artist in America who captures us — or at least
what we want to be. His easygoing calypso rhythms infused with steel
drums and trumpet are the ticket to paradise. He throws in an
occasional country tune and mixes it all with sweet ballads.

Buffett sings one wistful ballad that would make a lovely
Florida state song. It’s called “I Have Found Me a Home.” Several
stanzas hearken back to what Florida was before the boom and the
tourists hit.

Pay Big Bucks To Party At Minute Maid Park

March 6th, 2007

For the first time ever, Minute Maid Park will allow tailgating parties when Buffett performs at the ballpark April 21. The Houston Chronicle has an article on it: “Buffett fans get to party”

The “plocking,” as Buffett fans call their parties, will be confined to Parking Lots B and C on the west side of the stadium.

Partying won’t be cheap. Lot B will be for cars and trucks, at $50 a space. If you’re expecting lots of friends, you might have to buy extra spots, one for your car and three for your friends in hula skirts doing belly-buster high dives into a blow-up kiddie pool. You must contain your party to the spaces you purchase.

Lot C will be for RV vehicles, $175 per RV. There are only 48 spots available.

Parking lots will open at noon. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Observe Texas’ drinking laws. Don’t act like an idiot. No tailgating will be allowed after the show. Go home.

Buy your tailgating tickets now at Ticketmaster.

Article on Buffett’s New Beer “Landshark Lager”

March 5th, 2007

The Palm Beach Post has an article on Buffett’s new beer “Landshark Lager”: “Buffett’s new beer masquerades as microbrew”

LandShark is available in Margaritaville restaurants and will be sold at Buffett concerts. For now, the beer is being distributed to stores and restaurants only in Florida. A six-pack of LandShark cost $8.09 at Winn-Dixie last week.

Dean Lavallee, owner of the 10 Park Avenue BBQ and Grille restaurants in Palm Beach and Martin counties, said LandShark has been selling briskly at his restaurants.

“It seems to go well with barbecue,” Lavallee said.
