Buffett to Perform at Greenbrier Classic

April 1st, 2014

This year you can celebrate America’s birth with a special Buffett performance at the Greenbrier Classic Concert Series.

From the WV Mountain News:

Jimmy Buffett and Maroon 5 will headline the 2014 Greenbrier Classic Concert Series as part of The Greenbrier Classic, a PGA Tour event.

“I think we’ve really knocked it out of the park,” said Jim Justice, the owner of The Greenbrier Resort, during Tuesday’s concert announcement. “I’m tickled to death because I don’t know how it gets any better than this, I really don’t.”

Jimmy Buffett will perform in Greenbrier County on Saturday, July 5, while Maroon 5 will headline the Fourth of July show on Friday, which will include fireworks.

The concerts are part of the fifth annual Greenbrier Classic. It opens on June 30 on The Old White TPC course. As of Tuesday, Justice said the field of players had not been finalized.

Admission to either the Maroon 5 or Jimmy Buffett show is included in the purchase of a weekly Greenbrier Classic tournament badge. The price is $60 per person and there are also other badge types available.

Margaritaville Pleasures isn’t just for hula girls. Ladies, send your sailor to the “Far Side of the World” with themed lingerie, including Sexy Parrot, Smart Woman (in A Real Short Skirt), and Mermaid in the Night.

Buffett Interviewed in Southern Living

March 20th, 2014

In an interview with Southern Living, Buffett talks about the Gulf Coast, writing “Margaritaville,” and what his mama taught him:

Was there a particular event that inspired the lyrics to “Margaritaville”?

I was with some friends in a Mexican restaurant on a hot day in Austin, Texas. We had a couple of margaritas and they really tasted good. The idea starting forming then. Afterwards I was heading back home to Key West. I wrote the song in about six minutes driving down the Overseas Highway. That was a good six minutes.

What’s the best thing your mama taught you?

Tolerance. She believed everyone should be treated equally.

Where’s the most unexpected place you’ve encountered Parrot Heads?

My promoter had me playing my first show in Tahiti. It was a hula dancer from Hawaii, an Elvis impersonator from New Zealand, and me. No one there knew who I was, and we were having trouble selling tickets. I was going around and putting up flyers on every American boat I could find. The day of the show, all of a sudden an ocean research vessel appears. It’s from Gulfport, Mississippi, and filled with 150 marine biology students from LSU, Southern Miss and Ole Miss. They sold out the show!

Buffett Plays Small Shows in Australia

March 10th, 2014

Jimmy Buffett was in Australia last week and played a couple small shows:

The first show took place at the Quiksilver Pro surfing competition at Snapper Rocks, where Buffett and band played an hour-and-a-half show in front of an estimated 1,000 people – believed to be one of the smallest shows the artist has played in decades. During the show he pulled surfing stars Stephanie Gilmore and Kelly Slater up on stage with him to help perform a few songs, watch them playing Margaritaville here.

Then, on Sunday evening, the Coolangatta Sands Hotel hosted Buffett and his band for a free show in what is surely the pub’s biggest ever Sunday session. Some rough footage from that show has emerged, and you can see it here.

“It was a big night, lots of interest, the phone was running off the hook for almost two days,” Ben Otter of the Coolangatta Sands Hotel told theMusic.com.au this afternoon.

Otter says around 400 crammed into the sold out room, with interest coming from throughout Southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales. The venue didn’t have a lot of time to prepare for the onslaught, it all came together very much at the last minute.

“It was all very last minute, we knew about 36 hours before he played and we put it all together and he came,” Otter says. “We had it on good advice that he was coming and we met with his crew the day before, they’re a very efficient bunch of people.”

Frisco, TX Show Announced

February 27th, 2014

Many of you have been eagerly awaiting a date for the Dallas area, and you’ll be happy to hear Jimmy Buffett is returning to Toyota Stadium (formerly FC Dallas Stadium and Pizza Hut Park) this June. Buffettt will have an open act this year: John Fogerty.

Frisco, TX
Saturday, June 21st
Toyota Stadium

Tickets on sale March 7th via TicketMaster | TicketNetwork.

from The Dallas Morning News:

First Jimmy Buffett announced a concert in Austin. Houston next. Then no more Texas show announcements for about three weeks. I thought the Parrotheads in North Texas might pack up and move to Finland.

But no, the surfer-singer is officially headed to Frisco again this year, home of what’s considered one of the best tailgates each year on the Jimmy Buffett tour. The show is June 21 at Toyota Stadium (formerly FC Dallas Stadium, formerly Pizza Hut Park.)

John Fogerty is the opening act.

This year marks the second in a row for a Frisco-based concert, as the Coral Reefer Band took a detour to Dallas in 2012. That didn’t work out so well, according to most Parrotheads we interviewed, and by 2013 the show had returned to Frisco.

If the 2014 concert in Frisco mirrors past events, expect a weekend-long RV parking lot party, where concertgoers in board shorts and grass skirts flip and flop in land-locked Frisco. There’ll be margaritas, flying Jell-O shots and searches for that lost shaker of salt.
