Jamaica Dog-Sled Team Movie to be Made

February 24th, 2006

The Jamaica Observer has an article on the making of a movie for the Jamaican Dog Sled Team:

The story of the Jamaican Bobsleigh Olympic team was well documented in the movie Cool Runnings. Tal Stokes and the boys demonstrated that nothing, not even the elements, were beyond Jamaican sporting endeavour back in 1988.

Now comes the Jamaican dog-sleigh team and its exploits will feature in a documentary to be released in September of this year. The idea was conceptualised by businessman Danny Melville and the film financed by Island Mogul Chris Blackwell, with Jimmy Buffett of Margaritaville as sponsor. Shot in Jamaica and Scotland, the film wrapped this week and will now undergo editing.

“Hoot” Production Comes to Town

July 23rd, 2005

From the Boca Beacon:

Boca Grande.

Shriner – who directed and wrote the screenplay – and Buffett wanted to do the whole movie here. But the film’s modest budget remained a constant reality check. To keep costs in line, most of the filming would have to take place close to production facilities in the Ft. Lauderdale area. When you go on the road, people need to eat. They need a place to sleep. They need transportation. There are expenses. Lots of them.

Two weeks, maybe three, would have been nice. But five days are five days. And we understand.

Unlike “Out of Time” (which, at one point, claimed to have “rented” Park Avenue), the folks from “Hoot” didn‚t take over Boca Grande. They blended in and simply borrowed bits and pieces. And then gave them back when they were finished.<
