Buffett Performs at New Orleans Jazz Fest

April 29th, 2018

Jimmy Buffett performed at the New Orleans Jazz Festival on Sunday with his Acoustic Airmen and special guest Jake Shimabukuro.

New Orleans Jazz Fest producer Quint Davis introduced Jimmy Buffett’s close-out set on the Acura stage on Sunday (April 29) by saying, “This guy makes the world a little happier.”

For the next hour and a half, Buffett proved his point. Beach balls flew through the air, polka dotting the blue sky with primary colors. Hawaiian shirts clung to sweaty bodies. Parrothead hats bobbed to the beat. Vintage Buffett — and everyone, including the barefoot guy on stage, was eating it up.

For his 12th time at Jazz Fest (not counting his many guest appearances over the years), Buffett performed with the Acoustic Airmen, an all-start group of players that included Country Music Association Musician of the Year Mac McAnally along with Robert Greenidge, Eric Darken, Nadirah Shakoor and Tina Gullickson. Louisiana’s own Sonny Landreth joined on slide guitar, and Jake Shimabukuro stole the show on ukulele.

At one point, Buffett put down his guitar and walked aside, abdicating the stage to Shimabukuro and Greenidge as they performed “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” on ukulele and steel drums.

Buffett’s next show is May 19th in Kansas City. There’s still time to get tickets to see Jimmy during his 2018 tour.

Buffett to Play Concert on St. Barths

December 10th, 2017

According to the Caribbean Journal, Jimmy Buffett will play a free show in Gustavia, St. Barths on December 27th in an effort to bring more visitors to the island that is recovering from hurricane devastation:

Jimmy Buffett, the music superstar and frequent St Barth visitor, is planning to play a free concert in Gustavia on Dec. 27.

The concert will be held on the quai in St Barth’s tiny capital; Buffett will be accompanied by local musician Soley and other musicians from the island.

“He hopes that by performing there he will persuade a few more people to come down for the holidays,” said Stiles Bennet, president and CMO of Wimco Villas. “It’s a fun way for folks to support the island’s recovery.”

Buffett has had a decades-long relationship with the island, and some of his most legendary songs were inspired by St Barth, including One Particular Harbor, Au Tour de Rocher and Cheeseburger in Paradise.

Buffett has in recent years been known to play impromptu sets at St Barth hotspots like Le Select.

As Caribbean Journal reported, St Barth has been making a rapid recovery in the wake of Hurricane Irma; Buffett’s concert should only provide an even bigger boost.
