Patrick Kane Brings Out Stanley Cup at Chicago Show

June 29th, 2013

Jimmy Buffett made his annual trek to Chicago on Saturday night, but instead of playing the usual Toyota Park or Tinley Park, Jimmy played at the new FirstMerit Bank Pavilion on Northerly Island.

Take a look at the set list from the show here.

The Chicago Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane brought out the Stanley Cup at the concert. This wasn’t the first time that Kane did this. He also showed up with the cup at Toyota Park in 2010.

Margarillas Recap Boston Show

June 23rd, 2013

The Margarillas have a great recap of Saturday in Boston:

The Crew arrived at the Comcast Center at 7:15am to kick off breakfast and start load in. It felt good to see the trucks unloading knowing we were back on the road putting a full production show together. Best weather in a while outside of Boston as the sun was shining all day and the humidity forgot to show up! Our Boston crowds are one of the best. They are full on and when we come to town it takes a lot of energy from JB, the Coral Reefers and Crew to make it happen. There’s something about the crowd energy and level of tailgating at Great Woods (now Comcast Center) that didn’t leave a moment to spare when building the big top of this year’s St. Somewhere circus.

JB and the band took a longer soundcheck than normal going over a number of songs. The Paradise Lounge One Fund charity show on Thursday helped kick the rust off but that show was a bit looser. Club shows for Bubba bring him back to his element, just like those early days in New Orleans and Key West, and if you’ve been to one you’d see JB is relaxed, shooting from the hip and having fun winging it. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t put any planning into them. On the contrary, Jimmy is like Peyton Manning when it comes to looking back at old set lists from over the years in a certain city, walking out on stage, and reading his audience. Club gigs are just a bar type setting that JB is all too comfortable with and it harkens back to the days when he passed around a hat to get paid at Captain Tony’s. JB understands what Margaritaville’s arrival in Boston means every year and he and the Reefers know they have to be on their game when matching the 19,000 plus parrotheads’ enthusiasm.

Two Texas Shows in 24 Hours

May 4th, 2013

After high winds and cold temperatures forced him to postpone his Austin show for a day, Jimmy Buffett took the stage at the brand new Tower Amphitheater on Friday night for the first of two shows in the state of Texas in a 24 hour span.

View the set list for the Austin show here. The set list changed a little from the previous Songs From St Somewhere shows. Buffett dropped both “Useless and Important Information” and “Oldest Surfer on the Beach.” “Pencil Thin Mustache,” “Knees of My Heart,” and “Tryin’ to Reason With Hurricane Season” made their first appearances of the tour.

Buffett has a quick turnaround. He’ll play Frisco, Texas tonight. You can listen to the show live on Radio Margaritaville.

After the Frisco show, Buffett is off for over a month, except for the Boston benefit show on May 30th. The next tour show is June 22nd in Mansfield, MA.

Songs From St Somewhere Tour Rolls into Atlanta

April 30th, 2013

Jimmy Buffett headed south from Nashville to perform at Aaron’s Amphitheater in Atlanta on Tuesday night as part of the 2013 Songs From St. Somewhere Tour. It was Buffett’s 47th show in the ATL.

The set list was identical to Saturday night’s show except for one change: “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes” was back in the set, replacing “Nobody From Nowhere.”

View the entire set list here.

Buffett did reveal a detail about his upcoming album Songs From St Somewhere. The song “Too Drunk to Karaoke” will be a duet with Toby Keith (hat tip to sawman71 for catching this during the broadcast).

Buffett heads to Austin, Texas on Thursday, making his first appearance at the new Tower Amphitheater. Then Friday he’ll head to Frisco, TX.

Four New Songs Anchor Nashville Show

April 27th, 2013

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band delighted parrotheads in Nashville with a couple rarely played songs, plus four new songs that will appear on the new studio album Songs From St. Somewhere.

For the first time in many years, the show opened to something other than “Hot, Hot, Hot.” A recorded medley of Buffett tunes led into a live version of “Kinja” to get things going. Early in the set, Buffett played a new version of “Morris’ Nightmare” (last played in 1999), followed by “Ringling, Ringling” (last played in 2000).

The first of four new songs debuted was “Something ‘Bout a Boat,” cowritten by Jerry Jeff Walker’s son Django Walker. Django joined Buffett onstage to perform the song. The other new songs were “Too Drunk to Karaoke,” “Useless and Important Information,” and a great Mark Knopfler tune entitled “Oldest Surfer on the Beach,” which Buffett closed the night with.

A more up-tempo version of “A Pirate Looks at Forty” also debuted, and shockingly the staple “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes” was not played.

Buffett also paid tribute to George Jones, who passed away on Friday, with “Bartender’s Blues.”

Check out the full set list here.

The Songs From St. Somewhere Tour continues Tuesday in Atlanta. Find tickets to any of the upcoming shows here.
