Jimmy and Mishka Discuss ‘Ocean Is My Potion’

March 12th, 2013

Jimmy Buffett and Mishka sat down together in Hawaii to discuss ‘Ocean Is My Potion’ the new EP from Mishka.

The two actually met long ago, when Mishka was only 5 years old. The little tike was selling croissants in the French West Indies when he came upon the Margaritaville man himself. The acoustic-leaning songwriter even wrote a song about Mishka called “Chanson Pour Les Petis Enfants.”

Now the musicians’ relationship has come full circle on Mishka’s new EP Ocean Is My Potion. The title track features Buffett and the Bermuda-born singer’s velvety vocals.

Now you can check out an exclusive conversation between the up-and-coming reggae artist and his musical mentor in the video below. The pair discuss how they met, and even play their new single! Check out the video below, and grab Mishka’s new record in stores now.

Get Mishka’s New EP, Featuring Jimmy Buffett

February 27th, 2013

Renowned reggae artist Mishka has released a new EP entitled Ocean Is My Potion.

The record features Jimmy Buffett on two of the tracks, and is available now at iTunes for $5.99.

  1. Ocean Is My Potion (feat. Jimmy Buffett)
  2. Love You (When I’m Close To You)
  3. Rebel Soul
  4. Love and Roots
  5. When The Rain Comes Down
  6. Constant Revolution
  7. Trying To Reason With Hurricane Season (feat. Jimmy Buffett)

Celebrated recording artist Mishka’s new release, the “Ocean Is My Potion” EP, is a journey back to his musical roots. Like Mishka himself, the album is imprinted with the sounds and emotions of the islands, with influences that range from the heavy bass of Reggae to the gulf and western stylings of Jimmy Buffett.

Mishka first met Jimmy Buffett when he was an entrepreneurial five year-old delivering fresh croissants to Jimmy’s sailboat in the French West Indies. The musician and young Mishka formed a fast bond, and Jimmy wrote and recorded a song about him called, “Chanson Pour Les Petis Enfants” which translates to, “Song For Little Children.”

When preparing to record his latest album, Mishka handpicked his support team, which led him back to his old friend from the islands. This album will be his first release on Mailboat Records.

Recorded at the famed Shrimpboat Sound Studio in Key West, the album features Mishka’s take on the Jimmy Buffett classic, “Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season.” The track features both famed musician Mac McAnally and Jimmy Buffett himself.

Born in Bermuda and raised in the Caribbean, Mishka’s music is a natural fit for Mailboat Records. Caribbean at its core, with an eclectic sound that blends island beats with mellow acoustic ballads, the music is amplified by the messages of love and social justice that are delivered straight from Mishka’s heart.

Mishka has played and toured with many artists, most notably Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown, Dirty Heads, Matisyahu and the Roots.

Jimmy Buffett, Little Feat, James Taylor, Lyle Lovett & more on Tribute to Jesse Winchester

August 14th, 2012

“Quiet About It” is available for download now at iTunes! The album is a gift from grateful musicians and songwriters including Jimmy Buffett, Mac McAnally, James Taylor, Lyle Lovett, Allen Toussaint, Little Feat and more to a master – Jesse Winchester.

Excerpts taken from the album liner notes written by Bill Flanagan:

I don’t know anyone who dislikes Jesse Winchester’s music. It seems to me that there are only those who love it and those who have never heard it. Jesse is a songwriter’s songwriter, praised by every composer from Dylan down and covered by greats from Wilson Pickett to the Everly Brothers. Jesse Winchester’s songs are like mirrors in which both performers and listeners can see themselves. Among Jesse’s most prominent fans are Jimmy Buffett and Elvis Costello, both of whom have covered a number of Jesse songs on record and in concert, and both of whom performed with him on television in 2010 – Elvis on his SPECTACLE series and Jimmy on his CONCERT FOR THE GULF special after the BP oil spill…Buffett and Costello both took great pleasure in introducing one of their musical heroes to their own audience.

A year after that, in 2011, Jesse was told he had esophageal cancer. He stopped in the middle of a tour and began radiation treatments, followed by surgery. Immediately, Buffett and Costello agreed that it would be a good idea to put together a tribute album as a show of support.

At Christmas of 2011 Buffett wrote to Jesse and told him the album was coming, a gift from a whole bunch of grateful musicians and songwriters to a master. Jesse expressed his gratitude and had some good news of his own. He had beat the odds – after treatment and surgery the doctors had told him he was cancer free. Soon he returned to the road and as of this writing is performing again, making up for a lost year. A happy ending all around.

This album is a tribute to a great singer/songwriter and also to the community of musicians who pulled together to show their love and respect to Jesse when he was down. Now that Jesse is back up, make sure you see him when he comes to your town. They are not making any more like him.
