Jimmy Buffett and Mac McAnally wrote a song for Caroline Jones that she has recorded and filmed a music video for. Buffett, McAnally, Kenny Chesney, and Lukas Nelson provide vocals on the song as well.
Buffett has not only been a strong supporter, he’s now co-written a song for Jones.
“This is a really, really cool story,” says Jones. “I became close friends with Jimmy when we went out on tour last year. I’ve known Mac McAnally since 2012. He’s Jimmy’s right hand man musically, he’s a songwriter, producer, musician’s musician. . He was one of the first people to bring me to Nashville and introduce me to the studio musician scene. So, it was a real honor when they came to me and said they’d written a song for me to sing called “Gulf Coast Girl.”
Jones says the lyrics were written to speak to the beauty and culture of the Gulf Coast and Buffett took time to share some of that history with her. She does the lead vocals, but gets a little bit of help.
“The song features Jimmy, Kenny Chesney, it features Mac, and also features Lukas Nelson. It’s an incredible group to be associated with or even named with in the same breath,” she says.
Jones, who now calls Florida home, traveled to Alabama to shoot the video.
“I hadn’t been to Gulf Shores, Alabama and it’s absolutely gorgeous. It was so much fun to shoot. Those white sand beaches are beautiful and the people are so nice. I see what Jimmy and Mac are talking about. It’s a very special part of the world.”
