Article on JB Supporting Kinky Friedman Campaign

May 1st, 2006

The Dallas Morning News has an article on Jimmy supporting Kinky Friedman’s gubernatorial run in Texas.

The word is that during a midnight call last week, the Margaritaville magnate committed to offer hefty financial backing to the Kinky campaign.

“All I want when you’re governor is Port Aransas,” Jimmy told Kinky.

“You sure you don’t want Dallas?” Kinky countered.

“No, no,” Jimmy said. “Port Aransas.”

More Insight Into Buffett’s Harvard Visit

November 25th, 2005

An article on Gainesville.com gives some more insight into Buffett’s visit to Harvard:

Before the study group, Graham invites a few undergraduates to have lunch with Buffett in a conference room. The singer arrives in a long-sleeved polo shirt, corduroy pants and loafers. Graham wears a coat and tie. Buffett tells the students that he admires Graham’s commitment to the environment and his nonstop curiosity.

”When he was in the Senate, he was always inquisitive,” Buffett says, citing Graham’s research about Islam. ”He went and studied. He took the time to go and investigate what this was all about before making an opinion.”

He wishes Graham had become president. ”I still think he’d be a better president than what we’ve got now, for God’s sakes.” He teases Graham that his namesake bridge is famous for collapsing.

”The one that gets hit all the time? That’s your bridge?” he asks.

About 50 students arrive for the study group, some clutching CDs and even a guitar for Buffett to autograph. Buffett gives a brief speech about how governments are similar to rock bands. He answers questions about his politics and music (No, he doesn’t mind playing Margaritaville for the zillionth time, because it pays the rent.)

Buffett Making the Rounds in Boston

November 17th, 2005

Buffett had Harvard crowd on a string

Folks who showed up at Harvard yesterday to hear Jimmy Buffett talk about the role of celebrities in government came this close to being serenaded by Mr. Margaritaville. When a Parrothead in the audience handed Buffett a children’s guitar and requested that he play a tune, Buffett tried to oblige. But when the songwriter — who’d been invited to speak by his friend and fellow Floridian former US Senator Bob Graham — was tuning the tiny guitar, a string snapped. Oh well. By the way, Buffett’s new CD and DVD, ”Live at Fenway,” is out now.

And this was in yesterdays:

Jimmy Buffett paid a visit to the ballpark on Yawkey Way yesterday to mark the release of his new CD and DVD, ”Live at Fenway Park,” recorded in 2004. Standing on the right-field roof, the principal Parrothead was asked if he might consider becoming the Bosox GM. Maybe, said Buffett, but only if the team moves to St. Bart’s and plays exclusively day games. Today, Buffett’s at Harvard’s Institute of Politics to talk to a class taught by his old friend, former Florida Senator Bob Graham.
