Sun-Times Blogger covers Alpine Tailgate

July 20th, 2008

Dave Hoekstra of the Chicago Sun-Times covered Saturday night’s show at the Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy Wisconsin on his blog. You can also watch a video of the pre-concert tailgating:

I’ve always wanted to visually document Tropical Tailgating before a Jimmy Buffett concert at Alpine Valley in East Troy, Wis. Despite a fading recording industry, his concert audience continues to grow because of his shrewd (and fun) marketing sensibilities.
Saturday, 7/19 was no exception.

Check it out here.

Couple marries before Cincy concert

July 17th, 2008

Two local parrotheads from Loveland married in the parking lot of RIverbend Amphitheater today before the Jimmy Buffett concert:

A Loveland couple will be donning their best tropical attire Thursday, grabbing a margarita, then joining hands in marriage.

This will all happen outside Riverbend, just hours before Jimmy Buffett takes the stage.

Teri Moore and Tim Maxwell are members of the Cincinnati Parrothead Club. Their wedding was planned for 11:30 a.m. Thursday at a Jimmy Buffett tailgate party.

News & Observer Preview of Raleigh Show

June 6th, 2008

The Raleigh News & Observer has a preview of Saturday’s show at Walnut Creek: “Jimmy Buffett is coming to town”

Buffett’s show sold out in less than a day when it went on sale in March. Walnut Creek used to be one of Buffett’s most reliable strongholds during the 1990s, when he would sell out two and even three shows a season. He has played there 20 times since 1991, more than any other act.

But Buffett hasn’t played Walnut Creek since 2002 — or in the Triangle since a 2004 show at the RBC Center. Wilson Howard, who books shows at Walnut Creek for Live Nation, declined to comment when asked why it’s been six years since Buffett’s last Walnut Creek appearance.

Whatever the reason, Parrothead Nation is just glad the hiatus is ending. The local legions have been gearing up for this show for months.

“We’re all very excited,” says Scott Ennis, who is helping to organize a preshow parking-lot party. “We plan to meet at 2:00 Saturday to get in line for the lots, which open at 3:00. It will be an all-day event, lots of Parrotheads there partying. Some are going just for the pre-party, and they’ll listen from the parking lot. Not everybody could get tickets.”

Play “Rock Band” in Atlanta parking lot

June 3rd, 2008

Parrotheads tailgating before the show on Thursday at the Lakewood Amphitheater in Atlanta, Georgia will have a chance to rock out to Buffett’s song on a portable version of “Rock Band” mounted to a golf cart:

The second part of Jimmy Buffett’s tour kicks off in Atlanta June 5. The singer has called on Meridian’s Peavey Electronics to add a little excitement to it.

Peavey makes the game controllers for the popular electronic guitar games and Buffett asked the company to make one for ‘Rock Band’, a game that features several of his songs.

Instead of a standard game controller, Buffett wanted this one to be on a golf cart.

“I’m going to look forward to seeing his face when he sees it in Atlanta Thursday. We’ve had a ball doing it and it pretty much speaks for himself,” said company founder Hartley Peavey.

“Jimmy’s Sharkart”, as it will be called, will be on hand before the concert, as fans tailgate. They’ll get a shot at a high score, and a chance to meet Buffett.
