The natives are restless in Cayman

September 28th, 2007

According to Cayman Net News, the Margaritaville Cafe on Grand Cayman that opened in 2006 recently had its liquor license put on probation because of complaints from a neighboring church.

Elmslie Memorial United Church objected to the renewal of Margaritaville’s licenses claiming the establishment is “a bad influence” and that the owners, Dart Realty, should apply the same principles here that they apply to the upscale Camana Bay development.

Renard Moxam, Managing Director of Island Companies, and part-owner of Margaritaville, responded that there were no objections to the initial application by Margaritaville, and that to be asked to modify the license was problematic. Margaritaville has been in operation for over a year, and apart from a couple of incidents that were acted upon, the establishment felt there are no grounds for objections.

Margaritavilles to open in Honolulu and Uncasville

June 28th, 2007

Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville franchise will open new restaurants in Honolulu and at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.
The Boston Globe reports that the Mohegan Sun Casino will open a Margaritaville restaurant, replete with tiki huts and a “cheeseburger in paradise” menu entree, as part of their $740-million expansion plan.
To ensure that patrons don’t suffer from tequila deficiencies, plans call for the restaurant to feature an eight-foot tall blender that fills with margaritas every hour, according to a publicist for the project.
More info on the M’Ville is available at TheDay.com.
Also, look for a Margaritaville restaurant to be built in Honolulu, Hawaii with completion in ’08 or ’09!

Seals Find a Friend in Margaritaville

December 21st, 2006

Jimmy Buffett recently issued a letter declaring that his Margaritaville Cafes will not purchase or serve Canadian seafood products until the Canadian government ends the commercial seal hunt permanently.

I do not look at this as one nation telling another how to best manage its affairs. I view it as an effort to make humans more humane in the way they manage the planet. We do not own the earth. We are landlords and we simply need to do a better job, for all creatures on this earth.
