Fort Lauderdale “Hoot” Premiere

April 3rd, 2006

The Florida Sun-Sentinel has an article on the premiere of “Hoot” in Fort Lauderdale. Jimmy was in attendance.

It looked like the opening of a blockbuster, but instead it was the worldwide premiere of Hoot, a mystery adventure based on a children’s book, Sunday afternoon at the Sunrise Las Olas Cinema.

Singer Jimmy Buffett, Seabiscuit producer Frank Marshall and Walden Media produced the movie, based on Carl Hiaasen’s Newbery Honor-winning book.

Buffett, who lives in Palm Beach, and Hiaasen, the Florida Keys resident and Miami Herald columnist, shared the red carpet in Fort Lauderdale with the movie’s younger actors, Logan Lerman, Cody Linley and Brie Larson.

Buffett regaled a long line of reporters with quotes on the importance of protecting the environment.

Article on Parrot Heads in Virginia Getting Tickets

March 16th, 2006

The Belvoir Eagle has an article on Parrot Heads in Virginia vying for tickets to the Bristow, Virginia show:

Parrotheads who gathered at Sosa spent time talking to each other and exchanging stories of other Buffett concerts they had attended. While waiting for the clock to strike 10, they also watched the facility’s big screen television, and made runs for coffee and breakfast.

“He’s got great melodies about everyday life,” Pete McGraw, an Army contractor who works at Fort Myer, said of Buffett.

Mike Martin has seen Buffett in concert every year since 1988. To make sure he had tickets this year, the first sergeant got up at 4 a.m. to make the drive from Virginia Beach, Va., to Fort Belvoir.

Buffett No. 7 on Rock’s Richest

March 10th, 2006

Jimmy Buffett comes in at Number 7 on Rolling Stone’s “Richest Rock Stars of 2006.”

Side businesses and endorsements were another lucrative source of income, and the king of that approach is Jimmy Buffett (No. 7, $44 million), who not only grossed $41 million on his annual amphitheater tour but also earned around $15 million from his ten Margaritaville restaurants (which also sell merchandise such as Parrothead hats), a deal with Sirius Satellite Radio and other ventures.

Buffett also owns his own record label, Mailboat Records, enabling him to earn as much as $5 royalty per record sold, as compared to the standard $1 to $2.50. “Jimmy Buffett is a cottage industry by himself,” says Arfa. Says Guerinot, “It’s a lifestyle thing. It’s every thirty-eight-year-old with a BMW spending his seventy-five dollars on a ticket.”

Here’s a look at the Top Ten:

1. U2, $154.2 million
2. The Rolling Stones, $92.5 million
3. Eagles, $63.2 million
4. Paul McCartney, $56 million
5. Elton John, $48.9 million
6. Neil Diamond, $44.7 million
7. Jimmy Buffett, $44 million
8. Rod Stewart, $40.3 million
9. Dave Matthews Band, $39.6 million
10. Celine Dion, $38.5 million

Blog Mentions Jimmy Attending Oscar Party

March 9th, 2006

STLToday.com mentions US Olympic snowboarder Shaun White attending an Oscar party and seeing Jimmy there.

As one of the U.S. Olympians that definitely did not stink, snow boarder Shaun White is living large these days. During a Wednesday visit to ESPN2’s “Cold Pizza” show, White gushed about his invites to the Oscar parties.

“I’m walking through this party and someone grabs me on the shoulder and I turn around and it’s Elton John,” White recalled. “I’m like, ‘Are you serious?’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, man, way to go. Congrats!’ And I’m like [singing], ‘Bennie and the Jets!’

“I was all excited. It was insane to just meet some people like that. Even Jimmy Buffett was at the party . . . that was one of those things where I realized everybody’s just normal people and everybody watches the Olympics. It’s such an amazing event. It’s cool to have those people know my name. It was cool because I was in awe to meet them, and it seemed like some of them were just as excited to meet me.”
