Coral Reefers on JB’s Fall

January 27th, 2011

Some of the Coral Reefer Band have posted messages to their social networking sites on what has transpired over the past day.

Nadirah Shakoor:

Thank you everyone for your kind words and concern for JB I will pass them on to him. We are all still a bit shaken but you know JB he’s already writing a song about it. 🙂

Peter Mayer:

Thanks for your best wishes, prayers and comments. While we’re sad to cancel the show in Auckland, it’s the best thing. Jimmy is resting up. He was very fortunate to not have had worse injuries from his fall. He’s tough, he bounces and he’ll be back soon. PM

Jim Mayer Blogging Australia Tour Leg

January 20th, 2011

Coral Reefer bass guitarist Jim Mayer is blogging his adventures traveling to Australia for the upcoming Down Under tour leg:

It all started early Monday morning. Coral Reefers from around the country were up and moving toward the Hotlanta Airport with our destination, summer time in Sydney Australia, the land called Oz, clearly in our sights.

Peter, Mac and I met up with Nadirah Shakoor and John Lovell and our posse of crew and techs, all good folks and friends for the first leg of our journey, a stop-over in LA. You can imagine the scene, over half of the First Class section filled with the Buffett group. There were movies, chatter and lots of snacks and refreshments. (Let the party begin!)

With the sun long gone on it’s way to the Far Side of the World we took off from LA, enjoyed several movies, some more snacks and some seriously good zzzzzzzs. Before we knew it we were in Sydney where we met up with the rest of the gang that had converged on this incredible city, hopped a huge bus named Jimmy Buffett and were off to our hotel.

Check out the full blog entry here, and read the entry on the first full day in Australia here.

Mac McAnally Wins CMA Musician of the Year Again

November 10th, 2010

The Country Music Association (CMA) held their 44th annual awards show on Wednesday night and Coral Reefer Band member Mac McAnally won Musician of the Year for the third straight year. The award was doled out before the show.

Mac beat out Paul Frankin, Dann Huff, Brent Mason, and Randy Scruggs for the honor.

In an interview last month, Mac described how humbled he was to win the award twice and be nominated again:

“I know we’ve had this conversation before, but I was flattered and felt unworthy to be nominated the first time and now I’ve won two,” McAnally said.

“Once again, I’m awfully grateful to be thought about in any positive light by my peers,” McAnally said.

“Playing music is my favorite thing to do,” he said. “It’s certainly not a bad thing to get called to do some more.”

Congrats Mac!
