Sun News Article on Buffett’s M’Ville Show

May 5th, 2006

The Sun News has an article on Buffett’s concert on Thursday night at the Margaritaville in Myrtle Beach:

A couple of hundred VIPs with free passes and lucky fans who won their way in saw Buffett’s hour-long performance. The singer was backed by a scaled-down version of the Coral Reefer Band at an intimate gig the popular musician – who sells out 20,000-seat stadiums – typically doesn’t play.

Buffett glided onto the restaurant’s small stage at 5:15 p.m. for the “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” show and launched into “The Wino And I Know.”

“I can’t think of the last time I played a cocktail hour show,” Buffett said, wearing khaki shorts, a blue button-up shirt, aviator shades and a white cap.

Buffett played the songs the fans expected to hear, including “Come Monday,” “Son of a Son of a Sailor,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise” and, of course, the closer, “Margaritaville.”

The crowd sang along, chanting “Salt, Salt, Salt” at just the right moment in “Margaritaville” and clamping their hands together above their heads during “Fins.”

Buffett chatted with the small crowd between songs, commenting on the restaurant’s scenery, the lighthouse outside over his right shoulder and the flags hanging behind the stage.

“Thank God they spelled my name right,” he said jokingly about the signs.
