Parking Info for Gulf Coast Concert

July 7th, 2010

Plan to arrive early and consider carpooling, biking, or walking to Sunday’s Jimmy Buffett concert in Gulf Shores, event organizers say.

A free park and ride shuttle system will be implemented for the event. Shuttles will begin running at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 11th from satellite lots stationed in area shopping centers and parks. The primary satellite parking lot is at The Wharf at the Route 2/Foley Express intersection. An event ticket is needed to board the shuttle.

Park and Ride locations are denoted with a P on the map. Auxiliary Shuttle Stops with no parking available are denoted by a bus on the map. Bring a copy of the map with you in case you need to travel to a nearby parking lot.

Please remember that shuttles have assigned pick-up and drop-off locations. Don’t forget where you are dropped off! Return to this location for a shuttle ride back to the satellite parking lot where you originally started.

Handicap accessible shuttles will run on the red and yellow bus routes. There is also a handicap accessible parking lot located near the event site at the northeast corner of Highway 59 and East Beach Boulevard, in the Surf Style parking lot. Appropriate tags are necessary to enter this lot.

Additional parking lots may be added or changed. For the latest information, please visit the official “Concerts For The Coast” website before you travel. Traveler information will also be broadcast periodically on Sunny 105 FM and displayed on variable message signs in the area on the day of the event.

Jimmy Plays Surprise Show at Lulu’s

June 30th, 2010

Determined to not be stopped by the storm, Freddy and the Fishsticks (aka Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band) played a surprise show at Lulu’s Sunset Grill in Gulf Shores, AL tonight.

Notable songs played include “Surfing in a Hurricane,” “Bama Breeze”, and “Dreamsicle” for the first time since the 2001 show at Lulu’s. “When the Coast is Clear,” last played in 2003, was tonight’s final encore, featuring Mac on Keyboards and Pete on Guitar.

View the entire set list here.

Both the AP and the Press-Register have articles up with photo galleries from the show:

Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft said many in the crowd were local residents whose lives have been turned upside down by the loss of business from the oil spill.

“This is great. We have needed a boost so badly, and this really helps,” Craft said.

The next show will be July 11th on the beach in Gulf Shores.

Gulf Coast Concert Rescheduled for July 11th (Updated)

June 28th, 2010

Multiple outlets are now reporting that the Gulf Coast concert with Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band and others has been rescheduled for Sunday, July 11th.

Officials worried that winds and storm surge from Tropical Storm Alex could threaten the stability of the beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama where the concert is to be held. The stage, which had been going up this week, is already being taken down.

A Facebook fan tells us that a note was put up on Margaritaville.com, including a quote from Jimmy, but was quickly taken down.

Your tickets to the show will of course still be honored on July 11th. If you made reservations with a hotel or condo, call them to discuss your accomodations.

Update – Here is Buffett’s statement from Margaritaville.com:

“Nobody hates this more than I do but I guess, as the song says, it’s hard to reason with hurricane season,” Jimmy said. “For those going anyway, thank you. My sister Lulu will take good care of you. For the rest of you, we will see you July 11th!”
