Jimmy Drops by Wyndham Championship

August 16th, 2016

Jimmy Buffett jetted into Greensboro, NC on Monday and played one song at the temporary Margaritaville bar that was set up at the Wyndham Championship golf tournament:

The crowd gathered a little before 4 p.m. in the hot, open-air Margaritaville bar set up in front of Sedgefield Country Club’s stately Tudor clubhouse for the Wyndham Championship.

A few hundred people listened and sang along with “20 Ride,” a Zac Brown tribute band from Charlotte. But they were waiting for more. Word was out: Jimmy Buffett would visit this temporary bar based on his chain of 24 permanent Margaritavilles in the U.S., Mexico and Carribean.

“He just popped in,” Wyndham tournament director Mark Brazil said. “He and the (executives) from Wyndham have gotten to be good friends. … He wanted to come out and see this Margaritaville because he’s seen the Wyndham beach on TV, and he wanted to get a look at what we’re doing. He was pretty blown away by it all.”

It was a whirlwind trip, a pit-stop in the middle of a longer trip, and Buffett was in Greensboro for less than two hours.

At last Buffett came out of the clubhouse and into the heat, ambling toward the stage. It was 5 o’clock. Of course. Because it’s always 5 o’clock somewhere.

Buffett was dressed for business: light blue shorts, a pink polo shirt, and battered blue Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers with no laces. His curly gray hair poked out from beneath a white Navy Sailing baseball cap, his eyes hidden behind gold-framed aviator sunglasses with dark brown lenses.

Buffett Back on the Road with Show on Atlantic City Beach

August 14th, 2016

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band are back on the road for the I Don’t Know Tour with a show on Saturday night on the beach in Atlantic City.

Philly.com has a review of the show:

If entertaining Jersey Shore crowds without relying on gambling is key to A.C.’s future success, then who better to kick off such proceedings than the man behind “Margaritaville” and his Parrothead following?

On Saturday afternoon, the deeply tanned, humorous, 69-year-old Buffett, his Coral Reefer Band, and his opening act (onetime Philadelphians G. Love & Special Sauce) sold out the Atlantic City beach for the first concert of its season. Spanning from Missouri Avenue on the Boardwalk to Indiana Avenue and MLK Boulevard, an estimated 20,000 people were in attendance, many of whom seemed to know Buffett’s every lyric and between-song banter.

Buffett to Host Fundraiser for Hillary Clinton

August 8th, 2016

Despite his “endorsement” on April Fools Day of Donald Trump (hehe), Jimmy Buffett will host a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton later this month in the Hamptons.

The Democratic nominee, whose campaign is currently focused on recruiting Republicans disgusted with Donald Trump into the fold, is packing in up to nine big-dollar events during a Hamptons fundraising sprint beginning Aug. 28 and ending Aug. 30, according to three sources familiar with the campaign’s fundraising strategy.
Story Continued Below

Singer Jimmy Buffett, a Montauk resident, is expected to host a Clinton fundraiser at his home, the sources said.

And Loews CEO Jonathan Tisch and Rudin Management bigwig Bill Rudin have sent out invitations to a $33,400-a-head dinner they are co-hosting.

Clinton is also planning to attend fundraising dinners in Sagaponack, Quogue and East Hampton, hosted by donors like hedge fund manager and art collector Adam Sender; philanthropist Barbara Lee Diamonstein-Spielvogel and Carl Spielvogel, former U.S. ambassador to the Slovak Republic; and Infor CEO Charles Phillips and longtime Clinton donor Alan Patricof.

Jimmy has hosted and performed at many political fundraisers and rallies over the years for Democratic candidates and environmental causes.

Buffett’s Comments About “Hawaii Five-0’s” Ending Get Corrected

August 6th, 2016

When Jimmy Buffett appeared on the Today Show last week, he sat for a short interview where he said that he would be reprising his role as helicopter pilot Frank Bama on Hawaii Five-0 in its upcoming season that would be its last. But showrunner Peter M. Lenkov quickly shot down Buffett’s comments that the next season would be the last:

The executive producer took to his official Twitter account and said, “Hey @jimmybuffett — whoever gave you that info is wrong. Bama is alive and well… For many many MORE seasons. Good luck on the tour.”

Despite the initially shocking news, Lenkov appears to have taken everything with a happy disposition since it did seem like just an honest mistake. Lenkov then proceeded to have a conversation with TV Line to further explain things so as to straighten out the misunderstanding. “I don’t know where that came from,” he said. “It was early in the morning and I think they were giving him margaritas or something!”

As for the future of the show, fans can take a breather as the producer stated that in his opinion, they still have at least one more season left on top of the upcoming installment. With that in mind, there are still a lot of stories left to tackle in the long running crime-busting thriller.

“Hawaii Five-0” season 7 will debut on Sept. 23 and will continue to air every Friday night at 9 p.m. ET on CBS
