Buffett Makes Surprise Appearance with Anders Osborne in New Orleans

December 7th, 2014

Jimmy Buffett was in New Orleans on Saturday night and made a surprise on-stage appearance with Anders Osborne at his show at Tipitina’s.

Anders Osborne typically invites special guests to join him for his annual Holiday Spectacular concerts at Tipitina’s. On Saturday (Dec. 6), the second night of this year’s Spectacular, those guests included a surprise sit-in by Jimmy Buffett.

During the sold-out show’s first set, Buffett joined Osborne, Dave and Tommy Malone, and Osborne’s all-star band for the New Orleans standard “Iko Iko.” Buffett took a seat onstage alongside the others to strum an acoustic guitar and sing.

He’d spent the first part of the evening watching the show from his perch atop an equipment case at the side of the stage. He was non-committal when photographer Erika Goldring asked him if he planned to get up onstage. “He said, ‘Aw, I don’t know. I just came here to watch.’ He thought they were going to be singing Christmas songs.”

Buffett’s Margaritaville Coming to Norwegian Cruise Ship

December 4th, 2014

Jimmy Buffett is taking Margaritaville to the high seas. At the Norwegian Cruise Line’s annual company meeting on Thursday, Jimmy made a surprise appearance as the CEO announced the deal.

Margaritaville will be a complimentary restaurant on the Norwegian Escape, which will debut in Europe next October and begin week-long Caribbean cruises out of Miami starting Nov. 14. The 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar will be an outdoor bar on the ship’s Waterfront zone and will feature live music nightly.

Margaritaville eventually will be expanded to the rest of the fleet, but details haven’t been set yet, said Vanessa Lane Picariello, Norwegian’s director of public relations.

“I always wanted a navy,” Buffett said. “If you see me out on my little 26-foot sailboat, please do not run over me.”

The Miami Herald also revealed that a Margaritaville will open at the cruise line’s port in Belize while a 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar will be built in The Bahamas.

‘Margaritaville – The Musical’ in the Works

December 4th, 2014

On the November 26th edition of the Tony Kornheiser Show, guest Greg Garcia revealed that he’s working with actor and writer Mike O’Malley on a broadway musical based on “Margaritaville.”

Garcia said that they’ve talked with Jimmy and that he’s on board. They’ll use Jimmy’s existing music, plus some new original songs that JB’s writing.

Garcia and O’Malley worked together on the television show “Yes, Dear.”

You can listen to the conversation at ESPN980.com (11/26/14 Hour 2 around the 19:00 mark).

Mike O’Malley has been trying to get something going with ‘Margaritaville’ for years. Back in 2008, we reported that he was working with Buffett on a television show based on characters that Jimmy sings about.

New Discussion Board is Live

December 3rd, 2014

A little news here about BuffettWorld.com:

We recently changed hosting companies and the transfer to the new server went well, except for one thing: the discussion board. Despite several hours of work, the database containing 500,000+ posts over 10+ years could not be restored. So we’re starting fresh with a new forum.

If you’ve never clicked over to the discussion board before, give it a look. There’s a great community full of knowledgeable and fun Buffett fans. Have a question about Jimmy or his music? Post a topic and you’ll likely get the answer.

If you were a member on the board before, I hope you’ll take the time to register and participate again.

As always, thanks for visiting BuffettWorld.com!

Jimmy Buffett Gets Mentioned at White House Press Briefing

December 3rd, 2014

At the daily White House press briefing on Wednesday, President Obama’s press secretary Josh Earnest name-dropped Jimmy Buffett.

President Barack Obama and incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell held a rare private meeting at the White House Wednesday, though bourbon was not on the menu.

“It’s an afternoon meeting,” Press Secretary Josh Earnest explained to reporters at the daily White House press briefing, adding “that may be Jimmy Buffett’s philosophy, but Jimmy Buffett’s not the president of the United States.”

The behind-closed-doors confab came as the Republican leader prepares to take control of the Senate in January and as Obama has said he’ll be “spending a lot more time” with McConnell and House Speaker John Boehner, even joking he’d welcome a drink with McConnell.

“Actually, I would enjoy having some Kentucky bourbon with Mitch McConnell,” Obama said at a post-election press conference, after Republicans seized control of the Senate and widened their hold on the House.

Obama and McConnell had a “good conversation about a variety of different issues where we might possibly find common ground,” McConnell told CNN.

“This was not the bourbon summit,” he said. “But I’m still hoping we’ll have it.”
