July 24th, 2012

At a press conference in Atlantic City today, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Jimmy Buffett announced that the Margaritaville brand is coming to the Jersey shore:

Margaritaville is coming to Atlantic City. The Margaritaville project, slated for Resorts, could be open as early as May, 2013. Governor Chris Christie, Senate President Steven Sweeney, Resorts executive Aaron Gomes and Jimmy Buffett were on hand to announce the project.

The Margaritaville complex will feature a casino, a year-round beach bar complex, a restaurant, Five O’ clock Somewhere Bar, retail stores, Landshark Bar and Grill, and the first-ever coffee shop among all of the Margaritaville properties. The Resorts facade will be re-themed with the Margaritaville brand.

More from Galloway Patch:

He said giving Resorts the Margaritaville makeover will be a $35 million project that will created about 250 construction jobs and about 162 permanent jobs for those living in the area. The project is expected to be completed by the spring of 2013.

He said in addition to a casino and restaurant, Margaritaville will offer a year-round beach bar and a coffee shop, among other luxuries.

“We have great things happening in Atlantic City,” said Christie, who referred to the South Inlet Improvement, the Boardwalk Relighting, and the Steel Pier Renovation projects.

Detroit Plans Full Day of Events for Comerica Park Show

July 22nd, 2012

Jimmy Buffett brings the Lounging at the Lagoon Tour to Detroit this weekend, playing a show at Comerica Park. It was announced today that promoters will host a day-long beach party downtown:

“It’s a simple formula: It’s about having fun,” says Lee Rifield of promoter Olympia Entertainment. “We’re really trying to create that environment Jimmy Buffett wants to be in.”

Among the frills at the pre-show party, which starts at 10 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot just north of Comerica Park:

• A 1,600-square-foot sand island with a tiki bar serving margaritas, along with a sand-diving game where contestants will turn up buried salt shakers redeemable for prizes.

• A sand beach with a stage featuring local bands Toast & Jam and Square Pegz.

• A beer tent serving Land Shark Premium Lager, the house beer for Buffett’s Margaritaville restaurant chain.

• A Ferris wheel, midway games, misting stations, a photo lounge and an appearance by Land Shark’s FinMobile.

The lot, which recently hosted the main stage of the Downtown Hoedown, has a capacity of about 10,000.

Deal Finalized to Bring Margaritaville to Atlantic City

July 20th, 2012

Philly.com reports that a deal has been struck to bring not one, but two Jimmy Buffett eating establishments:

According to the report, Resorts Atlantic City is entering into a multi-faceted deal with Buffet’s chain of casual dining-and-drinking spots. One element of the plan—which first surfaced last month—is the refurbishing of the Resorts-owned Central Pier, a long-decaying remnant of AyCee’s storied, pre-legal-gambling past. The pier will be the site of a Landshark Bar & Grill restaurant.

New to the drawing board is the planned construction of a Margaritaville Café inside Resorts. It is expected to replace the existing Breadsticks Café & Grill, the casino’s coffee shop, and the Beach Ball Café, which currently serves as a high-roller lounge. Both facilities front the Boardwalk.
