Article on the upcoming Houston show

April 19th, 2007

The Houston Chronicle has an article on what it took to get Buffett to come to Minute Maid Park for a show.

Jimmy Buffett’s concert Saturday night at Minute Maid Park took six months to negotiate, but the ball really started rolling three years ago when the Houston Astros hired Jay Lucas to run their communications department.

Astros president of business operations Pam Gardner “mentioned that the team was interested in getting a show or two at Minute Maid,” Lucas said. “The first person I thought of was Jimmy Buffett. He hadn’t played Houston in a long time. When you check out the way he packs concerts all over the country, I figured if you’re looking for someone to play here, he’s the one.”

Lucas called Buffett’s management and said, “We’d like to have Jimmy play Minute Maid Park. What do we have to do to get him here?”

…While Buffett had played several baseball stadiums in the past, including Wrigley Field in Chicago and Fenway Park in Boston, he was not looking to do a baseball stadium this year.

This article is a great read, especially for those of you who will be attending the show. Read the entire article.
