Buffett to Perform on Today Show in May

April 23rd, 2009

One of our readers, Melissa, passed this along:

I heard on the Today Show this morning that the Today Show gang is heading out to Key West on May 5th to Mile Marker 0 and Jimmy Buffett will be playing a concert there with the Today Show.

(hat tip to Melissa for passing this along)

Update – The Today Show’s website has more:

For one week this May, America’s first TV family will be spending more than just their mornings together. Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira, Al Roker and Ann Curry will pack their bags and head to some of America’s most beautiful destinations. TODAY Takes a Vacation, a five-day series, begins Monday, May 4.

Lauer added details about the anchors’ itinerary for Tuesday, May 5. “We’ll travel to mile marker zero in Key West, Florida,” he said. “From the southernmost point in the U.S., we will look for sunken treasure. And you can’t go to Key West without a little music from Jimmy Buffett, who’ll greet us with a live concert.”

Buffett Makes Appearance At Wounded Warriors Event

January 23rd, 2009

The Wounded Warriors Project held its 4th annual Soldier Ride this past weekend, and one of our members tells us that Jimmy Buffett made an appearance at the event in Key West.

The Wounded Warrior Project Soldier Ride is a rehabilitative cycling program for wounded warriors. For many of these combat-wounded veterans, Soldier Ride provides the first steps in the return to an active lifestyle. Margaritaville has sponsored the riders for 4 years and welcomes them once again on Saturday, January 17th.

Jimmy is a strong supporter of our troops. In January of 2008, he entertained troops aboard the USS Harry Truman. He’s also previously played a benefit concert for the Wounded Warriors Project.

Parade in Key West to Honor Captain Tony

November 5th, 2008

Following services on Saturday in Key West for Captain Tony Tarracino, a street party and parade will take place on Greene Street to celebrate his life:

Visitation for Tarracino will be held at Dean-Lopez Funeral Home at 418 Simonton St. Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will be Saturday at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church at 1010 Windsor Lane at 11 a.m.

That likely will be followed by something he would have rejoiced in: A parade and street party in his honor.

The parade, if approved by the City Commission, would start at noon and run down Greene Street — in front of Captain Tony’s Saloon — between Duval and Whitehead. Following the parade, the same area will be closed to traffic from 1 to 3 p.m. to accommodate the crowd expected to gather in honor of Tarracino.

Tarracino was a dear friend of Buffett’s. Read more about him here.

duPont Registry to Award Weeklong Stay at Former Buffett House

August 29th, 2008

The duPont Registry is awarding a 6 night/7 day stay at Jimmy Buffett’s former home in Key West:

duPont Registry will award a 6-night/7-day stay at a historic home in Key West, where famed musician Jimmy Buffett lived for 20 years, to a member of LuxuryRealEstate.com at the 13th Annual Luxury Real Estate Fall Conference in Philadelphia.

This prize, valued at more than $10,000, will be awarded at the Luxury Real Estate Sponsors Reception on the evening of Monday, October 13, 2008 at the Fall Conference. The conference is scheduled for October 11-14, 2008 at The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia and organizers expect more than 300 luxury professionals to attend.

“For the serious fan of recording star Jimmy Buffett, this is a dream come true,” said Eric V. Kennedy, editor-in-chief of duPont Registry. “It’s a place that captures the hidden essence of the real Key West that inspired a lifetime of musical favorites. Every step has been taken to ensure that items that were a part of Jimmy’s life here have been preserved. The result is a living museum that allows a privileged few who stay here a chance to experience the same lifestyle as the living legend who has captured the hearts and minds of so many.”

The property is located on a Key West canal with quick access to the sea. It includes a dock that can accommodate most boats. In addition, guests can enjoy a swimming pool, grill and screened patio, plus sleeping arrangements with a master bedroom with king-size bed, guest room with queen bed and a bunk room that sleeps four.

“This is the chance for a once-in-a-lifetime stay in a home that played a major part in the life of an American music icon,” Kennedy said. “Once you’ve stayed here and absorbed the history, those songs you’ve always cherished will relax you even more and sound just that much sweeter!”
