Under The Big Top Tour Begins in Tampa

April 24th, 2010

The show was back on the road Saturday night as Jimmy and the band began the Under The Big Top Tour with a performance at the Ford Amphitheater in Tampa, Florida.

Notable additions to the set list this year include “Knees of My Heart,” “Frank and Lola,” “If the Phone Doesn’t Ring, It’s Me,” “Big Top” and others. “Tin Cup Chalice” finished things off. Buffett also added Mac McAnally’s song “Back Where I Come From,” which Kenny Chesney has made popular over the years.

In a first for Buffett, portions of the show were streamed live on ustream.tv (part of the soundcheck was streamed earlier in the day too).

Summerzcool Moves Back to Florida

February 25th, 2010

The big show moved back to Florida on Thursday night as Jimmy and the band continued the last session of the Summerzcool Tour with a show in Orlando, Florida.

Returning to Orlando for the first time since February 8th, 2007 at the same venue, the set list once again featured a few Florida treats. The first few were in the first set as Jimmy brought back “License to Chill,” “Window on the World,” which was once again dedicated to the astronauts aboard the space shuttle Endeavour, “Rhumba Man,” and “Fruitcakes” with plenty of references to the video that was shot in Orlando.

Changes in the second set included the biggest one of all. “Door Number Three” returned to the set for the first time since August 30, 2007 in Uncasville, CT. Other changes where in the first encore as “Nobody From Nowhere” and “Brown Eyed Girl” brought us a completely different one. Finally, Jimmy closed the evening by dedicating “Tryin’ to Reason with Hurricane Season” to Gamble Rogers and his memories of them traveling around Florida and Gamble teaching Jimmy how to be a entertainer.

Chesney Records Mac McAnally’s “Down The Road”

September 2nd, 2008

Kenny Chesney’s upcoming new album, “Lucky Old Sun”, will include a version of Coral Reefer Mac McAnally’s “Down The Road”. Mac also sings on the track, according to the listing at Amazon.com.

You can watch Mac’s music video for “Down The Road” from 1994 in our Video Gallery.

This isn’t the first time that Chesney has recorded a McAnally song. A perennial favorite on tour, “Back Where I Come From” was recorded for Chesney’s 1996 album “Me And You”, and also appeared as a live track on the 2000 “Greatest Hits” album.

Chesney Gets Inspiration from Buffett-gifted Guitar

July 11th, 2008

After Kenny Chesney’s 2008 Poets & Pirates tour wraps up in September, he’ll head down to the islands with his Jimmy Buffett Signature Edition Martin guitar to write songs for his next album:

When the Poets & Pirates Tour, which hits Turner Field on Sunday, wraps in September, Chesney will grab his Jimmy Buffett Signature Edition Martin guitar — a gift from Buffett himself — and seek songwriting inspiration aboard his boat in the near-translucent waters of the Virgin Islands.

While plans are already in the works for next year’s tour, Chesney has his sights set on that upcoming songwriting sabbatical, crafting material with that guitar given by equally notorious island aficionado Buffett.

“Jimmy’s a great songwriter, so I’ll try to get whatever energy I can from it,” Chesney says with a laugh.
