Review Of Tuesday’s Charlotte Show

April 22nd, 2009

Scott Fowler at the Charlotte Observer has a review of Tuesday night’s Jimmy Buffett show in Charlotte: “Buffett takes Parrotheads to beach”

OK, picture this – a 62-year-old man, slightly chubby, wearing a salmon-colored T-shirt and patterned board shorts. He is barefoot and balding.

Let’s say this man wants you to listen to him for 2½ hours as he tells the story of his life.

Would you do it?

Around 18,000 did so Tuesday night in Charlotte, as tropical troubadour Jimmy Buffett cavorted around the stage at Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre like a kid who just saw the beach for the first time.

Summerzcool Tour Stops in Charlotte

April 21st, 2009

The Summerzcool tour moved east tonight as Jimmy and the band invaded the Coast of Carolina for the next show on the Summerzcool Tour in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Tonight’s changes started early as “Coconut Telegraph” moved into the second spot, replacing “Stars on the Water.” “A Lot to Drink About” continued to move around, this time landing at the end of the first set. The second set remained basically the same, the only change being “Gypsies in the Palace,” which was inserted into the set instead of “Fruitcakes.” For the encore, “We are the People our Parents Warned us About” was back in, as was “He Went to Paris” as the final song.

Jimmy Rocks Charlotte

April 29th, 2008

“Hello Carolina, We’re still here!” started stop number four on the Year Of Still Here Tour in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Returning to the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre (or the Blockbuster Pavilion as it once was known) for the first time in two years, the first set was almost the same as Frisco, the lone difference being the return of “Tryin’ to Reason with Hurricane Season”, not played since opening night in Houston, in the #8 slot.

The second set was similar as well, however “Why Don’t We Get Drunk” was dropped and “Scarlet Begonias” returned to the set. Jimmy once again told his story of the time the Grateful Dead played 2 nights at the same venue in Charlotte and Jimmy followed them by playing the next night and the following afternoon. Research has indicated that this event took place in 1992, although it was not at the same venue, as the Grateful Dead played the Charlotte Coliseum June 17 and 18 while Jimmy played the Blockbuster Pavilion June 19 and 20.

The first encore again featured “Fins” and the Bob Dylan classic “Rainy Day Women #12 and 35.” But the second encore featured perhaps the biggest surprise of the tour as Jimmy pulled out “God’s Own Drunk” for the first time since Last October in Vegas. This was just the third time in the last eight years it was played and the first time it has closed a show since August 1, 1998 in Bristow, VA.
