Buffett Opens Tour at Minute Maid Park

April 21st, 2007

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band kicked off the 2007 Bama Breeze Tour on Saturday night with a show from Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas, the home of the Houston Astros.

Robert Earl Keen opened for Buffett, then Jimmy opened his set with the Willie Nelson classic “On The Road Again.” Other notable songs in the set list included Cinco de Mayo in Memphis, Ballad of Spider John, Reggabilly Hill, and Northeast Texas Women.

UpdateRadio Margaritaville had technical difficulties at the end of the show. “Tonight I Just Need My Guitar” and “In My Room” were not aired due to a local power loss backstage. They are working on re-airing the lost songs in the near future.

Article on the upcoming Houston show

April 19th, 2007

The Houston Chronicle has an article on what it took to get Buffett to come to Minute Maid Park for a show.

Jimmy Buffett’s concert Saturday night at Minute Maid Park took six months to negotiate, but the ball really started rolling three years ago when the Houston Astros hired Jay Lucas to run their communications department.

Astros president of business operations Pam Gardner “mentioned that the team was interested in getting a show or two at Minute Maid,” Lucas said. “The first person I thought of was Jimmy Buffett. He hadn’t played Houston in a long time. When you check out the way he packs concerts all over the country, I figured if you’re looking for someone to play here, he’s the one.”

Lucas called Buffett’s management and said, “We’d like to have Jimmy play Minute Maid Park. What do we have to do to get him here?”

…While Buffett had played several baseball stadiums in the past, including Wrigley Field in Chicago and Fenway Park in Boston, he was not looking to do a baseball stadium this year.

This article is a great read, especially for those of you who will be attending the show. Read the entire article.

Pay Big Bucks To Party At Minute Maid Park

March 6th, 2007

For the first time ever, Minute Maid Park will allow tailgating parties when Buffett performs at the ballpark April 21. The Houston Chronicle has an article on it: “Buffett fans get to party”

The “plocking,” as Buffett fans call their parties, will be confined to Parking Lots B and C on the west side of the stadium.

Partying won’t be cheap. Lot B will be for cars and trucks, at $50 a space. If you’re expecting lots of friends, you might have to buy extra spots, one for your car and three for your friends in hula skirts doing belly-buster high dives into a blow-up kiddie pool. You must contain your party to the spaces you purchase.

Lot C will be for RV vehicles, $175 per RV. There are only 48 spots available.

Parking lots will open at noon. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Observe Texas’ drinking laws. Don’t act like an idiot. No tailgating will be allowed after the show. Go home.

Buy your tailgating tickets now at Ticketmaster.
