Vote Jimmy for Space Shuttle Wakeup Song

August 23rd, 2010

The space shuttle program is winding down and NASA is giving you the chance to decide what wakeup songs will be played for the final missions.

The wakeup song has been a part of the space program since the days of the Apollo missions. Jimmy Buffett’s music has been played at least three times: “Window on the World” earlier this year, “Oysters and Pearls” in 2008, and “Twelve Volt Man” in 2006.

NASA has chosen 40 previously played wakeup songs (with Jimmy’s “Window on the World” being one of them) and they want you to vote for your favorite. The two songs with the most votes will be played during the STS-133 mission that is scheduled to launch on November 1st.

Go to songcontest.nasa.gov to vote for Jimmy now!

“Window on the World” is currently at #9 with 1,900 votes. The current top two vote-getters are the “Star Trek Theme Song” with 23,000 votes and “Countdown” by Rush with 17,000 votes, so Jimmy needs our help!

Jimmy Attends Clinton Birthday Bash

August 23rd, 2010

Last week Jimmy Buffett attended a star-studded birthday party in the Hamptons for former president Bill Clinton:

Among the glitterati on the guest list for Clinton’s 64th birthday party, were designer Vera Wang, who created his daughter Chelsea’s wedding gown, TV host Katie Couric and music icons Paul McCartney and Jimmy Buffett.

The party was held at the Water Mill home of his longtime aide Doug Band and his wife, Lily, and catered by Jason Weiner of Almond restaurant in Bridgehampton.

Clinton’s wife, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, co-hosted the party that was also said to include model Christie Brinkley, “Today Show” host Matt Lauer and Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein.

Clinton’s birthday was Thursday, and McCartney made the ex-president’s day by calling and serenading him with The Beatles’ 1967 hit “When I’m Sixty-Four.”

In the summer of 2000, Jimmy and the Coral Reefers played on the South Lawn of the White House for Clinton’s birthday.
