What does stolen treasure, Cuban secret police and Jimmy Buffett’s old plane have in common?

All are part of the major plotline of Key West writer John H. Cunningham’s latest Buck Reilly Adventure—GREEN TO GO.

Cunningham will host a series of signings in Key West during Meeting of the Minds “Meet the Authors” Event from November 1-3:

11/3: 11-1 at Casa Marina

Locals have come to love John H. Cunningham and the Buck Reilly Adventure Series, which includes RED RIGHT RETURN and GREEN TO GO (Green Street Publishing; $3.99 eBook).

In GREEN TO GO, good news turns bad fast, and the bad just keeps coming…The unexpected contents of his parent’s Swiss bank account offers Buck Reilly a chance to dig himself out of the hole he’s been in since the recession hit, but first he must recover the treasure maps and clues he lost at sea. Those plans get put on hold when a friend is accused of orchestrating the biggest theft in Key West’s sordid history, and the FBI uses Buck’s past against him to demand that he search for the thieves who fled aboard a hundred year-old schooner.

No good deed goes unpunished, and Buck’s dogged by greed and double-crosses from Key West to the Bahamas and points south. His hunt for the missing treasure pits him against a crazed mercenary, Peruvian rebels, rogue Cuban Secret Police and a beautiful woman torn between turning Buck over to the authorities or succumbing to his easy charm.

If you love John D. MacDonald, Clive Cussler, Tom Corcoran, Tim Dorsey and Carl Hiaasen, Buck’s faults, quirks, humanity and heroics will appeal to you. Cunningham’s clever, thrill-seeking mysteries will leave you guessing.

For locals, you’ll hear a lot about famed Key West locales – Blue Heaven, La Concha Hotel, Pepe’s, Margaritaville and others.

Buffett to Headline Fundraiser for President Obama

September 26th, 2012

Jimmy Buffett is lending his voice once again to the Barack Obama campaign. He’ll headline a fundraiser at a Florida home on October 12th, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Next up at the Lake Mary home of celeb-lawyer and Democratic fundraiser John Morgan: Jimmy Buffett, live and in concert, to raise money for the re-election campaign of President Barack Obama.

Morgan is inviting people to a private, 5 p.m. fundraising party at his Lake Mary mansion on Oct. 12 featuring “A Musical Evening with Jimmy Buffett.”

Price of tickets starts at $500 just for the concert; $1,000 for VIP seating; and $5,000 for a meet-and-greet opportunity with the Florida Keys balladeer, Cheeseburger in Paradise rocker and long-time Democratic supporter.

“Remember, it’s five o’clock somewhere. Come get your margaritas, cheeseburgers and paradise at Morganritaville!!” Morgan states in an invitation cover letter.

Proceeds will be split up between the Obama For America committee, the Democratic National Committee, and state Democratic committees in Florida, Ohio and several other “swing states.”

In 2008, Buffett played to 20,000 people at a campaign rally in Tampa for Obama. In 2009, Buffett was spotted at the White House while in town for his annual northern Virginia show.

Obama also delved into political fundraising in 2010, playing at a private event for Florida gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink.

Buffett Performs in Brisbane, Announces Spring Return to Australia

September 21st, 2012

Jimmy Buffett and Mac McAnally played an intimate show in Brisbane last night, marking the first of two shows in Australia.

Buffett announced during the show that he’ll be back with his full band in March – April.

The Courier Mail has a review of the show:

AFTER an absence of close to quarter of a century, American songwriter Jimmy Buffett finally made it back on to a Brisbane stage last night.

Crawled on, actually, getting the first of many laughs about his near-death experience falling from a stage in Sydney last year.

But the 65-year-old is in fine shape all that sea air does him no harm and even better spirits, taking this 1000-strong audience on two-hour ride of songs and jokes that goes down as easily as the subject of his most famous song. In fact, Margaritaville now sports a new verse about that experience.

This intimate outdoors gig under balmy Brisbane skies sold out in minutes, and while many of his Australian fans have travelled around the world to see him play, there’s no doubt that his absence from this part of the world heightened the sense of occasion for his brightly-attired fans.
