Buffett Attends Battioke Charity Event

January 27th, 2014

Jimmy Buffett was in Miami on Monday night at Shane Battier’s Battioke charity event. Held at the Fillmore Miami Beach, the event benefits Battier’s Take Charge Foundation.

The signature fundraising event has become a favorite of those who attend as well as those who perform. What started as Clutch City Karaoke in Houston, has morphed into South Beach Battioke – a karaoke competition for Shane and his teammates as well as other celebrities. Giving these athletes a chance to shine off the court, the level of entertainment at Battioke is hard to find elsewhere. Attendees witness their favorite players letting loose and testing out their karaoke chops in front of a fun-loving lively audience, while raising money for The Battier Take Charge Foundation.

The event also featured a charity auction, in which Buffett was the high bidder ($24,000!) on a locker room-used celebratory bottle of champagne from last year’s championship that was signed by the team.

Buffett also took to the karaoke stage for Marvin Gay’s “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” with Pat Riley. Watch a short video of it on Instagram.

Shane Battier is a big parrothead, and even quoted Jimmy when he joined the Heat in 2011.

Patrick Kane Brings Out Stanley Cup at Chicago Show

June 29th, 2013

Jimmy Buffett made his annual trek to Chicago on Saturday night, but instead of playing the usual Toyota Park or Tinley Park, Jimmy played at the new FirstMerit Bank Pavilion on Northerly Island.

Take a look at the set list from the show here.

The Chicago Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane brought out the Stanley Cup at the concert. This wasn’t the first time that Kane did this. He also showed up with the cup at Toyota Park in 2010.

Our April Fools Joke Comes True at Buffett’s New Orleans Show

April 1st, 2012

Several of you fell for it, but our article on Sunday about Saints coach Sean Payton joining Jimmy Buffett’s band this summer was indeed an April Fools joke. Or was it?

Buffett played a free show at Woldenberg Park in New Orleans on Sunday night and during “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes” Sean Payton came out on stage and played the bongos!

Jimmy played to the hometown crowd, sporting a “Free Sean Payton” shirt during his set. Don’t look for the coach to be Lounging at the Lagoon this summer though. Our story was a complete and total fabrication.

Thankfully for manatees, last year’s April Fools story never came true: “Buffett reverses position on saving manatees.”
