Our April Fools Joke Comes True at Buffett’s New Orleans Show

April 1st, 2012

Several of you fell for it, but our article on Sunday about Saints coach Sean Payton joining Jimmy Buffett’s band this summer was indeed an April Fools joke. Or was it?

Buffett played a free show at Woldenberg Park in New Orleans on Sunday night and during “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes” Sean Payton came out on stage and played the bongos!

Jimmy played to the hometown crowd, sporting a “Free Sean Payton” shirt during his set. Don’t look for the coach to be Lounging at the Lagoon this summer though. Our story was a complete and total fabrication.

Thankfully for manatees, last year’s April Fools story never came true: “Buffett reverses position on saving manatees.”

Update – Here’s video:

Buffett Plays Tampa and New Orleans in Same Night

March 31st, 2012

Jimmy Buffett took the 2012 Welcome to Fin Land Tour to Tampa on Friday night, playing a show at the 1-800-ASK-GARY Amphitheater.

The show had a couple rare songs played, including “No Plane on Sunday” (hadn’t been played since 1995!) and “Hey Good Lookin'” (last played 2008). A solo acoustic version of “Nautical Wheelers” was the final encore. See the full set list here.

After the show, Jimmy boarded his jet and headed to New Orleans where he dropped in at D.B.A. and played a few songs:

Buffett to Play at NCAA Final Four in New Orleans

March 19th, 2012

Jimmy Buffett will play a free show in New Orleans as part of the NCAA Final Four festivities, reports NOLA.com

Kiss, the Black Keys and Jimmy Buffett are slated to perform free concerts in Woldenberg Park along the Mississippi River in downtown New Orleans the weekend of the NCAA Men’s Final Four. The concerts are part of a full slate of festivities throughout the college men’s basketball championship weekend.

In recent years Buffett, a native of the Gulf Coast with close ties to New Orleans, has mostly limited his local performances to hugely popular appearances at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival presented by Shell, as well as impromptu sets at clubs and the occasional tailgate party. The mayor of “Margaritaville” is a passionate fan of the New Orleans Saints who often attends playoff games and turns up in the locker room. He’ll perform at Woldenberg on Sunday, April 1.

Buffett and Coral Reefers Warm Up for Tour

January 27th, 2012

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band kick off the 2012 leg of the Welcome to Fin Land Tour Saturday night in Miami, but the crew took some time to warm up on Thursday night at Bamboo Room in Lake Worth, Florida.

Here’s the set list, courtesy of Karen Will-Dunne:

Karen noted that before One Particular Harbor the crowd got Jimmy to deviate from the setlist, playing
“The Pascagula Run,” “Why Don’t We Get Drunk,” and Nadirah’s “Use Me.”

He then continued with One Particular Harbour but called it a night after Margaritaville, not doing the two encore songs listed.

Also check out a video that Margaritaville.com posted of Jimmy and the CRB rehearsing:
