Buffett Plays a Special Gulf Coast Set in Pensacola

February 5th, 2013

Jimmy Buffett came home to the Gulf Coast on Tuesday night, playing a specially tailored set list for a sold out crowd at the Bay Center in Pensacola, Florida.

In the pre-show interview, Buffett said he felt like he was at a family reunion because of all the family members from the area that were in attendance.

Buffett veered away from the typical Lounging at the Lagoon set early, playing “Life Is Just a Tire Swing,” “Frank and Lola,” and “The Pascagoula Run.” Later in the show he brought out “Nobody From Nowhere,” “Floridays,” and “Bama Breeze.” The show ended with perhaps the most appropriate finale, “When The Coast Is Clear,” which was last played live on September 2nd, 2010 in Bristow, Virginia.

The Pensacola News Journal has a review of the show: “Fans go all out for love of party, music”

Buffett and the band hit the road to Jacksonville for a show on Thursday night before heading to Key West next week to start recording the new album.

Buffett Lounges in Seattle

October 24th, 2012

On Tuesday night, Jimmy Buffett brought the Lounging at the Lagoon Tour to the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington. It was Buffett’s first Seattle area show since 2003.

View the set list from the show here.

Check out a couple reviews from the show:

Buffett (in T-shirt, shorts and bare feet) and his 11-piece Coral Reefer Band filled a sprawling stage decorated to look like a beach-side bar. Behind the stage, a massive screen suitable for a drive-in theater displayed colorful video of Caribbean locales, as well as clips of swimming “mermaids” from a Florida tourist attraction that has been in business since the 1940s.

The stage was also flanked by two fake evergreen trees, among several references to the Seattle area. The best nod to the Northwest came during a boisterous version of Buffett’s signature “Margaritaville,” in which he substituted “Nibblin’ on crabcakes” for a famous line about spongecake. And Buffett reminded the crowd that the melancholy “Come Monday” (his first major hit in the mid-’70s) had caught on early in Seattle.

Buffett Performs in Brisbane, Announces Spring Return to Australia

September 21st, 2012

Jimmy Buffett and Mac McAnally played an intimate show in Brisbane last night, marking the first of two shows in Australia.

Buffett announced during the show that he’ll be back with his full band in March – April.

The Courier Mail has a review of the show:

AFTER an absence of close to quarter of a century, American songwriter Jimmy Buffett finally made it back on to a Brisbane stage last night.

Crawled on, actually, getting the first of many laughs about his near-death experience falling from a stage in Sydney last year.

But the 65-year-old is in fine shape all that sea air does him no harm and even better spirits, taking this 1000-strong audience on two-hour ride of songs and jokes that goes down as easily as the subject of his most famous song. In fact, Margaritaville now sports a new verse about that experience.

This intimate outdoors gig under balmy Brisbane skies sold out in minutes, and while many of his Australian fans have travelled around the world to see him play, there’s no doubt that his absence from this part of the world heightened the sense of occasion for his brightly-attired fans.
