Review of Kansas City Show

May 1st, 2011

On Saturday night, Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band returned to Kansas City for the first time in over a decade. The Kansas City Star has a review of the show:

Jimmy Buffett’s previous show in Kansas City was out at the Sandstone amphitheater on May 3,1997 — three U.S. presidents ago. The world has changed a lot since then. Buffett hasn’t.

He’s 64 now, a little paunchier and balder, but he’s still the ringleader of the biggest party band in the music business.

Saturday night, before 17,000 fans in the Sprint Center — many of them dressed in various and outlandish Parrothead attire (plastic leis, coconut-shell bras, Hawaiian shirts, shark-head headdresses) — Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band made up for their long absence from these parts by throwing down a show that lasted nearly 2½ hours and a 27-song setlist that included a few well-known covers and all of his best-known material.

The Welcome to Fin Land Tour continues Tuesday in St. Louis.

Jimmy Breaks Out More Gems in Raleigh

April 19th, 2011

North Carolinians were in need of a good time after tornadoes killed more than 20 people in the state over the weekend. On Tuesday night, Jimmy Buffett delivered with his Welcome to Fin Land Tour stopping at the Time Warner Cable Pavilion in Raleigh.

As promised, Buffett played a few more songs from this week’s featured album Volcano, including the first known performance of “Lady I Can’t Explain”. He also did “Chanson Pour Les Petits Enfants”, “Sending The Old Man Home”, and “Survive” as the final encore.

The only two songs from Volcano that haven’t been played yet are “Boat Drinks” and “Dreamsicle.”

Other notable songs from the set lit included “School Boy Heart,” “Coast of Carolina,” and “Last Man Standing.”

The tour continues on Thursday in Charlotte before heading back to Florida on Saturday for a show in West Palm Beach. View the full tour schedule here and get your tickets now!

Article on Buffett’s First Sydney Show

January 24th, 2011

The Daily Telegraph has a good writeup on Jimmy Buffett’s first Australia show in Sydney on Sunday night:

NEVER before have so many middle-aged men in loud shirts and shorts descended on Sydney’s Opera House.

But then it has been 24 years since Jimmy Buffett last performed in Australia along with his Coral Reefer band, for an adoring legion of fans fondly known as Parrotheads.

This was a crowd like no other I’ve experienced – more mega beach party than rock’n’roll show. A mate of mine who once worked for some of the most senior Liberal MPs in Canberra had flown down from Brisbane, escaping Queensland’s recent misery so that he could party hard and soak up Buffett-mania – replete with ridiculous headwear and Hawaiian shirt.
