Review of Buffett’s Boston Show

June 20th, 2011

A couple of Boston area papers have reviews of Buffett’s show at the Comcast Center on Saturday night:

Boston Globe – “Buffett and followers still at home in Margaritaville”
Boston Herald – “Basking in Buffett’s glow”
Sun Chronicle – “Buffett salutes B’s at concert”

It was to no one’s surprise that Buffett shuffled onto stage Saturday night, wearing a “spoked-B” Boston Bruins’ T-shirt with the “uffett” coincidentally stitched next to the B.

A video of the NHL Stanley Cup championship parade in Boston, with Buffett wearing a Bruins “sweater” of course in the crowd – pure Buffett, that’s why everyone loves the guy.

The only thing missing was Lord Stanley’s Cup, but once again Buffett was in championship form.

The Welcome to Fin Land Tour continues Tuesday in Pittsburgh.

Buffett Ends Frisco Show with a Gem

May 22nd, 2011

After close to two full days of tailgating for many Texas fans, Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band took the stage Saturday night at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco.

The set list was similar to recent shows, besides one notable exception: Buffett’s final encore was “Livingston’s Gone to Texas,” a song that hasn’t been performed live since 1974 or ’75.

The tour continues Tuesday in Atlanta, then Thursday in Virginia Beach, and a Saturday show in Nashville.

Buffett Performs at JazzFest

May 8th, 2011

The Times-Picayune has a great writeup of Jimmy Buffett’s performance at JazzFest on Saturday night:

Buffett’s island style lent new significance to typical Jazz Fest sights and smells: the beach balls that bounce through the crowd at the Acura Stage, the beach towels spread throughout the Fair Grounds, the coconut scent of suntan lotion that floats in the air. Typical Jazz Fest attire – the flip-flops, straw hats, bikini tops, tropical shirts – seemed even more appropriate as Buffett made the crowd feel like a beach must be nearby, somewhere just beyond the massive crowd. Maybe the ocean view is blocked by those tall guys with the parrots atop their hats?

But never mind that. Nothing matters when Buffett starts singing about pirates and sailors, cheeseburgers and margaritas. He starts strumming and you can practically smell salt in the air, hear waves sloshing against the shore.

Buffett’s performance will be streamed this evening at rollingstone.com/jazzfest.

Fin Land Tour Moves to Houston

May 6th, 2011

After a chilly night in St. Louis on Tuesday, Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band took the Welcome to Fin Land Tour south to Houston, Texas.

Jimmy broke out a few more gems for the show, including “Railroad Lady,” “Door Number Three,” “Making Music for Money,” and appropriately, “Cinco de Mayo in Memphis.” Buffett finished the show with a solo acoustic version of “Death of an Unpopular Poet.”
