Details on Buffett’s Get-Out-The-Vote-Rally

October 23rd, 2014

More details are now available on Jimmy Buffett’s get-out-the-vote rally for congressional candidate Gwen Graham.

Florida’s beach bum poet laureate Jimmy Buffett will croon some of his sun-burned classics during a Get Out the Vote rally starting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Moon, 1105 E. Lafayette St.

It’s a political gig, so Republican ParrotHeads will have to put aside their partisanship beliefs if they want to hear “Margaritaville.” Buffett, who is good friends with former Florida Gov. and Sen. Bob Graham, is stumping for Graham’s daughter, Gwen Graham, in her race for congress. Gov. Graham will be on hand for the show.

The free tickets to the Buffett bash are available on a first-come, first-serve basis at Graham’s Tallahassee offices at 1584 Metropolitan Blvd., Suite 102 and at 2130 N. Lake Bradford Road. For more information, call 407-721-1300.

Lulu Not Running for Congress… Ever

June 1st, 2013

In a post on her Facebook page, Jimmy’s sister Lucy, owner of Lulu’s at Homeport, swatted down any rumors about running for Congress:

Hi Folks – Seems like there are lots of funny rumors out there about me running for office. This is my official statement: I’m a restaurateur not a politician. I have no intention of running for any political office – EVER! Besides, as an 80’s wild child, I’d never survive the vetting process – LOL!

It was reported last week that Democrats were hoping to lure Lucy to run for the vacant seat in coastal Alabama.

Democrats Trying to Lure Lulu for Congress

May 29th, 2013

Democrats in Alabama are hoping to lure Jimmy Buffett’s sister Lucy (Lulu) in to running for Congress in coastal Alabama.

Citing a Democratic party source, the Mobile Press-Register reported that Gulf Shores, Ala. restaurant owner Lucy “LuLu” Buffett is being mentioned as possible Democrat to run in the heavily-Republican district.

The Buffetts are from Mobile. Lucy Buffett is well-known in the area for her eponymous beach restaurant, LuLu’s. She was a 2012 delegate to the Democratic National Convention in North Carolina.

Asked by The Daily Caller on Monday through Twitter if she’s planning to run, Buffett responded: “Haha. Not today. But the thought makes me smile!”

Alabama’s first congressional district seat is about to open up with Republican Rep. Jo Bonner announcing last week he is resigning this summer to take a new job with the University of Alabama system

Buffett Performs at Bill Nelson Campaign Event

October 13th, 2012

Jimmy Buffett was in Orlando on Friday night to help Democratic incumbent senator Bill Nelson kick off a statewide campaign tour.

U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson kicked off a cross-state tour Friday with singer Jimmy Buffett at his side, starting an itinerary that will take him to at least 19 stops in the last weeks of a hard-fought campaign against Republican U.S. Rep. Connie Mack.

About 100 supporters swayed and snapped cell phone photos of Buffett as he sang acoustical versions of “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” and “Margaritaville” in a hangar at the Orlando-Sanford International Airport. Nelson and his wife, Grace, danced alongside him.

“Go support Bill Nelson and the Democrats because guess what? Florida matters,” said Buffett, who was dressed in shorts, flip flops and sunglasses.

Nelson said the tour underscored his commitment to visit as many places in Florida as he can, even Republican bastions like the retirement community, The Villages, northwest of Orlando
