Jimmy Buffett flew his Pilatus airplane into Albert Whitted Airport in St. Petersburg, Florida on Monday to perform at a Get Out The Vote Rally for Hillary Clinton and Democratic candidates in Florida. Vice President Biden and his wife Jill were also in attendance.

Bombers on, shirtsleeves rolled to the elbows, Joe Biden took the stage at happy hour and roared one last invocation to the masses.

“Man, you are some state,” he said. “It always comes down to Florida.”

So it does, doesn’t it? Which is why on the final night of this endless, maddening 2016 campaign, the vice president called on the ultimate Florida Man, Jimmy Buffett, for a free voter rally on behalf of Hillary Clinton at Albert Whitted Park.

It sounded like a headline from The Onion — “Joe Biden Hitches Last-Minute Flight To Florida For Free Jimmy Buffett Concert” — but as the sun set behind the Salvador Dali Museum, Election Day hours away, it also offered Floridians one last chance to soak in the surreality of it all.

“I get to pinch myself a lot at work,” said U.S. Senate candidate Patrick Murphy, who spoke before Buffett and Biden, a day after campaigning with President Barack Obama and Stevie Wonder in Kissimmee. “Growing up in the Keys, (Buffett) is an icon. To have him now doing a little show to help encourage people to vote for you is pretty cool.”

“Yes, it’s been quite a summer,” Buffett sang on Come Monday, a song whose lyrics he tweaked for the occasion: “There’s a Dumpster that waits for that Trumpster with hate / and I’m all glad we’re on the right side.”

The crowd cheered, but will it really make a difference come Tuesday? Well, there weren’t many minorities in the mostly older crowd, not all of whom were #WithHer.

“Not voting,” shrugged Dan McCain, 68, of New Port Richey, unwinding on a bench in a lime green lei. “Don’t like either one of them. I’d vote for Jimmy Buffett, though.”

After Biden’s Trump-roasting, science-pushing stump speech, Buffett politicked between songs, pledging support for Clinton (“I come from a house of women. I live in a house of women now. I’d like to see a woman in the White House”) and the pro-marijuana Amendment 2.

“A little relief, right? That’s all we’re asking for,” he said. “Down in Margaritaville, we know what that’s about.”

Buffett is scheduled to perform at a get-out-the-vote rally for Democrats Hillary Clinton, Patrick Murphy, and Charlie Crist on Monday. The event is meant to urge voters to get to the polls on Election Day.

Buffett is expected to be joined by Murphy and Crist. He’ll also perform a short set of songs with Country Music Musician of the Year Mac McAnally.

Murphy faces Sen. Marco Rubio in the U.S. Senate race, while Crist, the state’s former governor, is hoping to unseat Rep. David Jolly.

Mayor Rick Kriseman will welcome Buffett and the candidates. The event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Albert Whitted Park in downtown St. Petersburg. The event is free and open to the public.

Buffett has played get out the vote rallies and fundraisers in the past for President Obama and several Florida candidates including Bill Nelson, Gwen Graham, and Alex Sink.

While on tour out west the past couple of weeks, Jimmy Buffett recorded a video urging Florida residents to vote on ballot issues concerning solar power and medical marijuana:

Buffett boiled down his message about the state constitutional amendments 1 and 2 in a bilingual pitch: “No on one. Yes on two. No para uno. Si para dos.”

Amendment 1 has come under increasing criticism because it’s little understood and could trick residents into believing it expands solar-power choices, though it basically enshrines the status quo in the Florida constitution.

Amendment 1 would preserve a right for residents to own or lease solar devices, while prohibiting customers who don’t have solar from subsidizing those who do have them.

Just last week, The Miami Herald reported how Sal Nuzzo of the conservative James Madison Institute praised Amendment 1 as “an incredibly savvy maneuver” because it “would completely negate anything they (pro-solar groups) would try to do either legislatively or constitutionally down the road.” After he was caught, Nuzzo claimed he “misspoke.”

Former Vice president Al Gore recently spoke out against Amendment 1 because it would roll back what’s known as “net-metering,” a state rule requiring utilities to pay customers who produce solar energy.

Utilities backing the measure now have donated at least $17 million of the $22.1 million raised by Consumers for Smart Solar, according to POLITICO Florida analysis of campaign finance reports. Miami Herald columnist Carl Hiaasen said their involvement is a red flag for how anti-consumer the amendment is.

“Let the scum shine,” Hiaasen wrote.

In his video message, Buffett was more understated.

“It’s obvious what’s going on there,” Buffett says. “We’ve been enjoying the sun for most of our lives living in Florida. Now it’s time to use it right, and use it for everybody’s benefit.”

Buffett livened up when it came to Amendment 2, which allows people with debilitating medical conditions access to medical marijuana.

“Amendment 2. Medical marijuana — Duh!” Buffett chuckles.

Opponents of medical marijuana say it’s a backdoor way to outright legalization. Supporters say the amendment is intentionally designed to limit itself to those deemed severely sick by a licensed Florida physician.

Buffett said he used cannabis medically after he had a stage accident in Australia.

“I can tell you from first-hand experience that medical-marijuana is a great cure,” Buffett says.

Buffett also supported a medical marijuana initiative that failed in 2014.

Jimmy Buffett performed with Bon Jovi and Paul McCartney in the Hamptons at a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton on Tuesday night.

Despite his “endorsement” on April Fools Day of Donald Trump (hehe), Jimmy Buffett will host a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton later this month in the Hamptons.

The Democratic nominee, whose campaign is currently focused on recruiting Republicans disgusted with Donald Trump into the fold, is packing in up to nine big-dollar events during a Hamptons fundraising sprint beginning Aug. 28 and ending Aug. 30, according to three sources familiar with the campaign’s fundraising strategy.

Singer Jimmy Buffett, a Montauk resident, is expected to host a Clinton fundraiser at his home, the sources said.

And Loews CEO Jonathan Tisch and Rudin Management bigwig Bill Rudin have sent out invitations to a $33,400-a-head dinner they are co-hosting.

Clinton is also planning to attend fundraising dinners in Sagaponack, Quogue and East Hampton, hosted by donors like hedge fund manager and art collector Adam Sender; philanthropist Barbara Lee Diamonstein-Spielvogel and Carl Spielvogel, former U.S. ambassador to the Slovak Republic; and Infor CEO Charles Phillips and longtime Clinton donor Alan Patricof.

Jimmy has hosted and performed at many political fundraisers and rallies over the years for Democratic candidates and environmental causes.
