Update – The Press Register has more:

The sister of singer Jimmy Buffett said she will be on the air during the 9 a.m. hour, when she will be featured in a three-minute cooking segment.

On TV, she’ll prepare the tiny Wee Burgers that are favored by her youngest patrons and showcase a pre-prepared sampling of L.A. (that’s “Lower Alabama”) Caviar. The latter is a signature LuLu’s dish comprised of black-eyed peas, various peppers, onion and cherry tomatoes, among other tasty ingredients.

“It’s exciting” being on TV, Buffett said on a summer afternoon from the bar at LuLu’s. “Sometimes I get a little nervous, but then I think, ‘Oh, heck. I am just going to cook.’ Hopefully, it will sell books.”

“Crazy Sista Cooking,” which features more than 150 of Buffett’s favorite recipes mixed in with tales of life in Lower Alabama, is a self-published book. Recently, book distributor PGW signed on to give the full-color volume greater exposure.

“We’re getting ready to run another 40,000 books,” Buffett said. “Hopefully, they will do well. If not, they will just be around LuLu’s for a while.”

Many of the dishes featured in the book are served every day on the LuLu’s menu.

“Almost all of them are LuLu’s recipes,” Buffett said. “I figure it’s not like they are big secrets. If you want to go and make an oyster loaf, I am sure you can do as well as I do. I want to make sure people enjoy the food, but I’m not sure that’s the whole reason people love LuLu’s.”

Buffett discusses surfing on Long Island

June 29th, 2008

The New York Daily News caught up with Jimmy and talked to him about surfing on Long Island:

Has Jimmy Buffett found a new northern Margaritaville? The singing sailor has been spending an awful lot of time in Montauk’s new Surf Lodge, sipping – wait for it – margaritas and hanging with pals. Just don’t ask him to take his shirt off. When we asked him if he ever goes topless, he almost lost his salt shaker.

“That’s a f– stupid question,” he railed. “I’m 60 years old. No, no, no, no, no!”

Buffet did reveal to us that he has had his share of summer flings, but we will have to wait at least another 30 years to hear about them.

“Of course, I have had a few,” he told us. “But I’d never tell you about it. When I’m 90, I’ll tell all.”

Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter told the New York Daily News, “Underneath his craziness, he was a Southern gentleman. he had a courtliness that I totally fell for.”

Meg Ryan added, “I loved the rollercoaster that was his mind.”

Hunter S. Thompson was best known for his novel “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.” The event, held at the Waverly Inn, was also attended by Meg Ryan and Candice Bergen.

USA Weekend Interview with Buffett, Win a Trip to Paradise

June 27th, 2008

USA Weekend has a terrific interview with Buffett, where he talks a lot about his family, politics, and how he came up with this year’s tour name, among other things: “Jimmy Buffett: No Trouble In Paradise”

When Jimmy Buffett was trying to come up with a name for his annual tour, he got together with a group of buddies and bandmates to brainstorm. “We said, ‘What are we going to call this after 40 years? What do we do now that we’re still here?’ ” he says. “And that became this summer’s motto: The Year of Still Here.”

——————

Buffett, describing himself as “an old hippie” and “Southern radical,” says now, “I’m an Obama person.”

“Everybody knows my politics [he campaigned for Jimmy Carter and Al Gore and has played twice at Bill Clinton birthday parties]. But half my audience is Republicans — and that’s OK. People should be communicating, which is the biggest factor to me.”

He has been opposed to the war in Iraq since the beginning. “Anybody who makes policy in this country oughta have to walk by the Vietnam memorial on the way to work,” Buffett says.

So why not vote for Vietnam vet John McCain? “I respect John McCain, but it’s old stuff. John McCain is older than I am!”

——————

Buffett’s kids have not exactly followed him into the fame game. At least not yet. Delaney 16, attends boarding school in the Northeast, as does Cameron, 14, his only son. Savannah, 29, is a host for Radio Margaritaville, a Sirius station that features all things Buffett. Ask Buffett what kind of dad he is, and he’ll say what most fathers say: “A good one, I hope.”

They are also giving away a trip to Parrothead Paradise, all you have to do is write your own first verse to Margaritaville! Read the details and enter the contest here!
