When Jimmy Buffett wrote and recorded “Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season” in 1974, he couldn’t have anticipated that Hurricane Wilma would threaten plans for a gathering of about 3,000 of his “Parrot Head” fans 31 years later.

This week, Parrot Heads from all over the country flocked to Key West for their 14th annual “Meeting of the Minds” convention.

Although some venues have changed, the convention is featuring a traditional schedule of beachside parties, musical performances by Buffett band members and friends, and charitable activities.

The Tampa Bay Parrot Head Club is having a birthday!! We have a weekend full of great activities planned for September 9 and 10 to celebrate our 11th birthday! We will be taking over the Holiday Inn Harbourside Resort on Indian Rocks beach.

The festivities begin Friday night with live entertainment by the De’Leid Parrots starting at 6PM. There will also be a silent auction with all proceeds going to the Save the Manatee Club from 6-9PM outside at Jimmy Guana’s. Join the Tampa Bay Parrot Head Club Saturday evening for a GREAT night of celebrating at 7:30PM. Gary and the Landsharks are set to take the stage at 8PM.
