Another Mohegan Article

June 19th, 2005

The Day has another article in their Sunday edition about the Buffett show on Friday night at the Mohegan Sun Casino.

If Rip Van Winkle fell asleep at a Jimmy Buffett concert in 1975, and then woke up Friday night at Mohegan Sun Arena’s performance, he would be hard-pressed to know that 30 years had passed.

His biggest clue would be that the 10,000 screaming, singing, dancing fans were older, greyer, and wider at the hips. Naperville Central teacher Jeff Plackett, center, ties Jimmy Buffett songs into a test review for his freshman communication class.

Plackett opened his students’ eyes – and ears – to “the poetry of Mr. James Buffett.” Students listened to four songs and picked out descriptions of archetypal characters in the lyrics, which ties in with short stories they’ve been studying in class.

WSJ Article on Warren and Jimmy Buffett

May 2nd, 2005

There is an article in the Wall Street Journal on the relationship between investor Warren Buffett and Jimmy Buffett.

Jimmy Buffett is indeed a longtime Berkshire shareholder, and his short composition was played on videotape at Berkshire’s annual meetings in 2003 and 2004.

In fact, the singer has also been friends with Warren Buffett, Berkshire’s 74-year-old chairman and chief executive, for more than 20 years, both men say. They don’t see each other often, but they talk on the phone regularly about business. They have even performed music together. And they plan to collaborate again at a New York charity dinner for Conservation International tomorrow night.
