July 23rd, 2005

From the Boca Beacon:

From the moment Wil Shriner, Jimmy Buffett and Carl Hiaason concocted the idea of bringing Haaison’s Hoot to life, they had their sights set on just one place to portray the film‚s fictional “Coconut Cove.”

Boca Grande.

Shriner – who directed and wrote the screenplay – and Buffett wanted to do the whole movie here. But the film’s modest budget remained a constant reality check. Shooting Begins For Movie “Hoot”

July 14th, 2005

“Hoot” was the result of a brainstorming session with Hiaasen and singer and songwriter Jimmy Buffett when the three got together in Key West three years ago. Buffett, who owns the film rights to the book, asked Will Shriner how they could get someone to bring the story onto the big screen.

“I said, ‘I’ll write the script, if I can direct it,’ ” Shriner said.

The story centers around a young boy who moves to Florida and becomes involved in a mystery involving endangered owls. Actors Logan Lerman, Brie Larson and Luke Wilson play major roles in the film. Lerman starred in the WB’s “Jack & Bobby,” Larson’s credits include “13 Going on 30” and Wilson is best-known for his lead roles in “Old School” and “The Royal Tenenbaums.”
