Buffett plays private show in Singapore

January 27th, 2008

Jimmy Buffett played a private show on Friday night in Singapore at the Long Bar in the Raffles Hotel, according to a BuffettWorld forum member:

Last night (January 25, 2008) I was visiting the Long Bar at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. I heard a number of Jimmy Buffet songs coming from upstairs a spiral staircase…less than 10 feet away from where we were. Included in the songs were Cheeseburger in Paradise, Brown Eyed girl and Margaritaville. It sounded like it actually was him…so we asked the hostess and she said that it was a private party, she could not reveal who was sponsoring the event, but in fact it was Jimmy Buffet. He made a joke about “…not finding it on E-Bay…” just before he concluded his set.

As guests were leaving the party upstairs…they were all given a “Margaritaville” goody bag.

Jimmy is currently traveling through southeast Asia after performing a benefit show in Hong Kong on January 18th.

JB plays surprise set in New Orleans

December 5th, 2007

This past weekend, Jimmy Buffett was at the bar d.b.a. on Frenchman Street when he took to the stage and performed a few songs. Jacob Brooks of The Bogalusa Daily News writes about the experience:

Around midnight or so, I was feeling the music, dancing, having a good time. I noticed this guy right in front of me. He was an older gentleman, and I didn’t recognize him at first.

Soon, the band took a little break, but when they came back on, the older gentleman who was right in front of me was on stage playing guitar and singing. It was Jimmy Buffett.

He sung “No woman, no cry,” a Bob Marley song, and a few others before turning the stage over back to the band.

When he was on stage, he said he loved New Orleans, which he called the “Capital of the Caribbean.” When people in the audience realized it was him, the cell phone cameras came out and weren’t put away until Buffett left the bar.

Buffett to play benefit show in Hong Kong

December 4th, 2007

According to ThomasCrampton.com, Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band will play a benefit show in Hong Kong on Friday, January 18th.

From the blog:

Thanks to a chance encounter with Jimmy Buffett in the Paris newsroom of the International Herald Tribune last May, I convinced him to come out to Hong Kong on January 18 to give a charity concert for the FCC Charity Fund.

The fund, which I co-founded a few years ago, raises money to educate the children from Hong Kong’s Po Leung Kuk orphange.

Jimmy has generously agreed to donate his time and been extremely involved in the event. Held in the Hong Kong Football Club, it is sure to be a great event, so spread the word book your tickets soon!
