1981 PARTY TIME ’81/COCONUT TELEGRAPH TOUR

1981 brought another tour, this time the Party Time ’81 tour starting in early February. February also saw the release of the new album, “Coconut Telegraph” which provided 9 new songs for the set list. The February 27 show in St. Petersburg was scheduled to be video taped for future use, though nothing has ever surfaced in video or audio from this show so it’s unknown if it actually happened. The end of May saw Jimmy make his first appearance at Caesars Casino in Lake Tahoe, a tradition that would be repeated in August and for the next few years. These engagement’s where likely Jimmy’s inspiration for “It’s Midnight and I’m Not Famous Yet.” The summer Coconut Telegraph tour began in late June with a benefit in Aspen and then onto all the normal summer stops. On November 28, Jimmy returned to Key West to play a benefit for the Tennessee Williams Fine Arts Center and a few days later he performed at a Manatee benefit in Miami.
