With a year under his belt playing with the Coral Reefer Band, Jimmy’s career was beginning to get bigger. Jimmy began the year still as an opening act and occasional headliner, opening for acts like the Pure Prairie League and Jimmy’s good friend Jerry Jeff Walker. Jimmy continued working the same territories in the southeast, California and the Northeast. Festivals appearances included the Sebring ’76 festival with acts like Joe Cocker, Long Beach State University’s Banjo, Fiddle, and Guitar Festival, the world’s largest Kegger in Missoula, Montana with Jerry Jeff Walker and Heart, a special show in New Orleans on the 4th of July with the Charlie Daniels Band, Emmylou Harris, and John Sebastian, and a show in Baton Rouge, LA in October at the Day and Night in the Country Festival. No radio broadcasts this year but Jimmy got a big boost by making one of his first tv appearances on Austin City Limits, recorded in July. Perhaps the most interesting show of the year was on July 9th as Jimmy was the headline act for a 1-day cruise out of St. Petersburg, Florida aboard ‘The Tom Sawyer.’ Check out our classic story about this show here! By the fall, ‘Margaritaville’ was out and moving up the charts and Jimmy and the Reefers began headlining shows with the David Bromberg Opening.
