One of the all time greats. He played before my time but got to see him at a lot of Cardinals event.

Sail on...

Sail on, Stan. You will be sorely missed in St. Louis.
It seems like not a lot of people outside the Midwest realize what a great player he was. Check this out for his stats, they're pretty amazing: http://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/player.php?p=musiast01
He was MVP three times and went to a record 24 All-Star Games in 22 seasons (from 1959 - 1962 there were two each season).

RIP Stan :Toast: :Toast:

Surprising to hear that he got called the same day as Earl Weaver.

Yep.

Another connection I heard was that Stan's final season was Pete Rose's rookie season. And Stan's final at bat was a single just past the rookie Rose playing 2B

A fun story I heard last night...In May 2012 Stan's wife of 72 years passed away at 6:00...Stan's number was 6. Stan passed away at 5:45...he always said that if you weren't 15 minutes early...you were late.
