I'd be okay with that. This may be blasphemy but the same goes for "Margaritaville," as long as they were replaced by something else.
LOL. I wouldn't call it blasphemy as even the biggest alcoholic with the biggest beer gut can't take endless rounds of margaritas. Still, Jimmy might not be performing anymore if he does not play his anthem because only the die-hards are the ones who will attend. Let's face it, the majority of the crowds want to hear
Songs You Know By Heart. I'm fine with that. That's only 13 songs, taking up at most 50% of the setlist. Play the whole compilation if you must (which he doesn't, yet another thing the criticizers don't recognize), but just use the other half of the setlist to play the die-hard favorites, which to his credit he has done this tour. "Off to See the Lizard" is not his best, but it is definitely fun; "Life Is Just a Tire Swing" is something no one will criticize; "The Wino and I Know", "Havaña Daydreamin'" and "The Great Filling Station Holdup" have found their way back into the setlist after a long unnecessary absence; not to mention he has played the entire
Volcano album, including "Lady I Can't Explain"'s first appearance; not to mention "Livingston's Gone to Texas", it's first and only appearance in 35 years!
Sorry, kind of got off-track. Here's what I'm getting at:
I think there should be a couple songs he will always play 100% of the time. Pretty much "Margaritaville" and "Fins". All the other standards ("Come Monday", "A Pirate Looks at Forty", "Volcano", "Cheeseburger in Paradise", "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes") can take turns having a night off; ya know, a rotation. That way he'll play most of his well-known songs, while at the same time leaving an open slot for a surprise, and allowing the setlist to consistently change!
