Is the 3/18 setlist right? Did JB not play Cheeseburger?

I'd be okay with that. This may be blasphemy but the same goes for "Margaritaville," as long as they were replaced by something else.

Russ, I with you 100% on BEG, but Southern Cross is a song near and dear to my heart and it's one I always look forward to hearing Jimmy play live!

Nah, I dont believe, with Jimmy's extensive catalog, that any cover song should be played every show...near and dear or not, I want to hear Jimmy play Jimmy...no more Southern Cross, Rainy day women, and for goodness sakes no more Yellow submarine.

I find it funny that there are so many who quickly jump at Jimmy for playing the same old stuff every night, but only a few appreciate when he drops songs like "Cheeseburger in Paradise" and "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere" in a tour that has featured well over 100 songs! It just proves that the criticizers are wrong. Seriously, people will put forth the effort to say something negative but only a few will put forth the effort to say something positive. Are we not the followers of a fun-loving carefree talented artist? Where are the people who always hate on Jimmy for playing "Cheeseburger" every night when he finally doesn't play it? You know who you are.

LOL. I wouldn't call it blasphemy as even the biggest alcoholic with the biggest beer gut can't take endless rounds of margaritas. Still, Jimmy might not be performing anymore if he does not play his anthem because only the die-hards are the ones who will attend. Let's face it, the majority of the crowds want to hear Songs You Know By Heart. I'm fine with that. That's only 13 songs, taking up at most 50% of the setlist. Play the whole compilation if you must (which he doesn't, yet another thing the criticizers don't recognize), but just use the other half of the setlist to play the die-hard favorites, which to his credit he has done this tour. "Off to See the Lizard" is not his best, but it is definitely fun; "Life Is Just a Tire Swing" is something no one will criticize; "The Wino and I Know", "Havaña Daydreamin'" and "The Great Filling Station Holdup" have found their way back into the setlist after a long unnecessary absence; not to mention he has played the entire Volcano album, including "Lady I Can't Explain"'s first appearance; not to mention "Livingston's Gone to Texas", it's first and only appearance in 35 years!

Sorry, kind of got off-track. Here's what I'm getting at:

I think there should be a couple songs he will always play 100% of the time. Pretty much "Margaritaville" and "Fins". All the other standards ("Come Monday", "A Pirate Looks at Forty", "Volcano", "Cheeseburger in Paradise", "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes") can take turns having a night off; ya know, a rotation. That way he'll play most of his well-known songs, while at the same time leaving an open slot for a surprise, and allowing the setlist to consistently change!

Both "Brown Eyed Girl" and "Southern Cross" have been dropped a few times on this tour. But I see your point, he does play those way too often. As I said in an earlier post, I welcome him to play all 13 SYKBH songs and leave the rest of the setlist to unique songs. So, I'd say goodbye to "BEG", "SC" and even "One Particular Harbour" (too long and overplayed) and "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere" (I'm over it, it's not 2003 anymore).

I also agree, Russ, that "SC" is not that much better of a song than "BEG". I don't understand why so many parrotheads—even the die-hards—cream their pants over "SC" but at the same time hate on "BEG". I love both of them in moderation, but if I had to choose, I'd much rather hear "BEG". I understand the love for "SC"; I just don't understand the love for "SC" over "BEG".

I should actually clarify my love for SC a little bit. I've always liked the song, but since 2009 it has held a deeper symbolism for me. I went to Australia in 2009, and I was with a small group of college kids from around the country. We stayed the first two weeks in the Aussie outback, and every night we would have a campfire by the river and it would be so dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. We all got really close to one another, and are like siblings still today, and one night we were around the fire having some beers and we looked up and the brilliant night sky in the Southern Hemisphere and I pointed out the Souther Cross to them. They had nicknamed me "Buffett" because of my die-hard fandom so I told them about this song he plays that says....

"When you see the Southern Cross for the first time you'll understand just why you came this way."

It really was a life-changing experience for us. So, that's where my strong connection to that song lies, and I just belt it out at the top of my lungs during every show.

Cool story! I can't wait until I get the time and money to travel to Australia. Until then, I'll just envy you.

Gotta say, I LOVE "One Particular Harbour," and "Sothern Cross." Jimmy's version is very similar to Steven Stills' verson, but just a bit faster and for some reason it just sounds better.

Anybody have any updates on an Alpine Valley date?

Phinz up,

When's the last time Jimmy didn't do Volcano or Margaritaville? I have no idea but I certainly expect to hear them. Would it be a JB show without them? You bet. But you know he's gonna play 'em.

Jimmy could not play SC or BEG - or both, preferably - and it would still be a great show; his shows were great before he started playing those songs. Just so many other songs of his own that are fantastic. If I had to pick between the two I'd pick SC. If I never hear BEG again it'll be too soon. From anyone, not just Jimmy.
