I haven't seen this since it originally aired on Austin City Limits back in '78. Hopefully the person that uploaded this will upload the remainder of the performance to YouTube. Better yet, I'd love to see the complete performance (not just the segment that aired) get an official release on CD/DVD. Same thing for John Prine, who also appeared on this episode.

No problem. Actually, thanks should go to someone who posted it on another site. Otherwise, I never would have known about it. I have tried to track it down over the years but to no avail. Unfortunately, it looks like this clip may have come from a best of Austin City Limits rather than the complete show. I say that because of the "1978" in the opening credits. If that's the case, the person that posted this on YouTube doesn't have the whole show to upload. Whatever the case may be, I'm just thankful to see a clip from it which is something I thought I'd never see.

Must be from the 1977 tour since it's Tim Krekel on guitar. Awesome find!

That performance was from Nov 30, 1976 so it was Roger Bartlett, not Tim Krekel! All that hair...

For some reason, I can't access the Austin City Limits website which lists the dates of all of the episodes and when they originally aired. The photos section of Roger Bartlett's site says 1976 (without listing a specific date). Other sites say "Season 2, Episode 4: Jimmy Buffett followed by Rusty Weir" and that it originally aired in 1977. If you play the YouTube clip above, it very clearly says "1978". So, I'm guessing it was actually taped in '76 and aired in '77. In that regard, I have no idea where the "1978" comes from.

Thanks, I've seen that site before but didn't run across it yesterday when I was searching for info. Looking at it reminds me of several other old episodes I'd love to see get a CD/DVD release, especially the one with the Earl Scruggs Revue (which also apparently aired in '76). Thankfully, the album from their performance was finally released on CD for the first time a couple of years ago by the folks at Wounded Bird Records (who specialize in releasing out of print albums as well as ones that have never been released on CD). Not sure how much of a fan you (or anyone else here) are of Earl Scrugg but Live! From Austin City Limits is not only one of my favorite live albums but it's also one of my favorite albums, ever. A must for any fan of Earl Scruggs. This was recorded around the time that he was alienating bluegrass purists because he insisted upon adding drums and electric guitars to the mix as well as recording songs by the likes of Bob Dylan and Loudon Wainwright III.

In regards to the Austin City Limits website, it looks like it's back up but it appears to have received a makeover since the last time I checked it out. I'm not sure what they were thinking as the archive section is now severely lacking. If you ever run across a copy of this book be sure to snatch up a copy as it does an excellent job of documenting the first 25 years of Austin City Limits:

ACL is like a second tier of the Library Of Congress with the amount of music they (that could be) release(d)!

Thanks to New West Records, a lot of it has (both past and present). Speaking of which, another one I'd add to my wishlist is the Whiskeytown/Old 97s episode.

It's not from this episode of ACL, but I do have a DVD of Jimmy's performace on ACL in 1983, I believe it was. I'm pretty sure it's bootleg, but it's great quality nonetheless.
