Islands JB Mentions In Songs
Started thinking to the other day and laughed about the articles over the years describing Jimmy as singing about islands etc. Does he? I was surprised that he doesn't mention them very much. Here's a list of what I've managed to recall so far:
CARIBBEAN/ATLANTIC/GULF OF MEXICO ISLANDS IN SONGS
Volcano
I don’t want to land on no Three Mile Island
Presents To Send You
Thought I might sail down to Bridgetown
Spend some time in the Barbados sun
Migration
Well now, if I ever live to be an old man
I’m gonna sail down to Martinique
Woman Goin’ Crazy On Caroline Street
Her lover left her stranded in Jamaica
Mañana
While the lights of St. Thomas about twenty miles west
My African Friend
Business in Aruba concluded
With my weekend in Haiti concluded
Fins
Somewhere down Montserrat way
Sailed off to Antigua
The Night I Painted The Sky
To the shores of St. Martin
Jamaica Mistaica
Back to Jamaica
Desdemona’s Building A Rocket Ship
She was down in Puerto Rico
False Echoes
The skies over Cuba turned pink with the light
Incommunicado
Travis McGee’s still in Cedar Key
Meet Me In Memphis
He’s hold up down on Ramrod Key in the Tavernier Hotel
Prince Of Tides
Out on Dafuskie Island, the bulldozers bury the past
Everybody’s Got A Cousin In Miami
They were off to Cayo Hueso by the dawns early light
Merry Christmas, Alabama (Never Far From Home)
To St. Barth’s and the Florida Keys
Conky Tonkin'
How ’bout lunch in Key Largo
And they drove all the way to Key West
Oysters And Pearls
Lindbergh left Long Island in 1927
PACIFIC OCEAN ISLANDS
Christmas Island
How’d ya like to spend Christmas on Christmas Island?

Dammit. I have Manana in my original list. I must've deleted it somehow.

Edited now.
I can't think of any others. Does he ever say Key West in a song? Cayo Hueso is in one but I can't recall him ever saying Key West. Or Cuba even!

There's Cuban Crime of Passion. He doesn't actually say "Cuba" but he does say "Cuban" and "Havana."HurricaneSeason wrote:Edited now.

In "Last Mango in Paris" he mentions Captain Tony's, but he never says Key West. So, I don't how you want to score that one. He actually has quite a few references to places on islands without actually naming the island.

Weather is Here, Wish You Were Beautiful: Long Island Sound

Well... Cuban. That's a cultural thing, really, the subject of the song anyway.Coolbreeze2444 wrote:There's Cuban Crime of Passion. He doesn't actually say "Cuba" but he does say "Cuban" and "Havana."HurricaneSeason wrote:Edited now.

It doesn't have to be tropical! But you're correct. Missed that one! And I missed Conky Tonkin' (gee, I wonder why).SharkysMV1 wrote:Not necessarily a tropical island, but, since i live on the Sound:
