What a nice change to the set list. We are the People followed by the Mamas and Papas California Dreaming --- that was off the charts . Jake actually joined Jimmy for much more of the show than the RM / Sirius feed lets on. Jake was on stage for at least 10 - 12 songs maybe more, I will post the info when we get home on Sunday. Much less stage production, yeah
Much like the Fillmore and Alpine shows, Jimmy seemed to be more in touch with the audience, and less concerned with the overproduction we have seen the last several years. I did not miss the horn section at all. Jake added a nice flavor to many of the standards. Jimmy joked and played with the audience, and had fun with many of the Beach Balls on stage. Thank God, Beach Balls are again acceptable, no more horns to be Knocked out of Tune, and Jimmy seemed to enjoy the Beach Ball play. This being my 74th show in 26 years, I can emphatically say that Jimmy has returned to his roots. This was a great big venue show. Still too many of the SYKBH for me, but the crowed loved it. He often spoke of his memories of Irvine Meadows including the Album Cover Shot for Feeding Frenzy, I was actually at that show with my brother.
I have been to the best of the parking lots, and again, Irvine is up there at the top of the list. For a Thursday night, the lot was insane. A few changes, No more boats or flat bed trucks allowed, but that just made the Irvine crowd get more creative. I've never gotten more free booze and beer at a show than I did during our three hours in the parking lot.
We got some great photos both of the lot and the show, we will post them when we return, and once again I got the set list which was at Jimmy's feet, we took a picture and will post it as well. Two more shows this week, Saturday here at Irvine, and Tuesday at Shoreline in Mt. View.
You all enjoy the rest of your weekend.
